arveyboy 0
purely out of interest. everyone has that one shot (whether it be with a shotgun or rifle) that they will always remember. not necessarily the longest shot you've ever succeeded with. mine was on a driven pheasant day, second drive i must have shot a dozen birds. however there was only one which was particularly hard. there was a large flush and i had a right and a left bird. as i was reloading i made the huge mistake of looking up and saw an unusually high cock bird for our area. of course i panicked and only managed to fit one cartridge in. purely out of instinct i took aim, fired and to my suprise the pheasant crumpled and fell to the ground stone dead. now i feel ive peaked and cant hit jack sh1t whats yours? mcrobo123 0
maybe not one of my best shots but deffinately one of the most memorable was havin a walk round my land one day with me shotgun. i had a pocket full of random cartridges that had been sat gathering dust in my dads cartridge belt, so i decided to go n use them up. put 2 of these cartridges in and a pheasant popped up and it was quickly vapourised , litterally. what i shud have checked was the shot size. the were sum russian bb cartridges. no wounder theyd been gathering dust. Deker 3,478
194 yards with a .22 is a hell of a shot by anyones standards. one of my mates shot a bunny at 170 yards and he was pretty pleased with it It was a Baby too only about 6 weeks old...yep...I was pretty pleased as well, but I get a lot of practice up the range....and at 200 yards with the .22LR, so I know the ammo and holdover well..it was a set of circumstances that came together, I suspect I will never even try this again..it is great to have made it but not really to be recommended!! 35 years plus experience with the .22LR and it's just the once!! And all round I know several better shooters than me!!! But don't tell them I said so!! Simple fact is, it often comes down to being in the right place, right time, right circumstances, and oh yes..the odd bit of good fortune helps as well!! But as they say..the harder I practice the luckier I seem to get!! Edited December 21, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post

micky 3,325
I shot a rabbit with my yackers when iwas a kid ,for a couple of hours iwas top dog, then spud taylor spanked a cock pheasant that was roosting in a hedgemeat bush ,and my moment of glory was over,. Quote Link to post
Mr_Logic 5
Tricky one! The most memorable I think was the fox I shot with a 243 in absolutely miserable conditions. I didn't want to leave my shelter to go after him, and he didn't want to leave his bush to run away. I ended up head shooting him at 25 yards (farthest distance I could see more than eyes!), and the resultant mess (58gr vmax), combined with Deker trying find where the hell I was (such was the crappy weather) all added up to quite a memory. Guest oldskool
my most memerable shot was a rabbit that dropped after a 300 yard shot with an anschutz .22lr loaded with stingers... i remember aiming way over its head and sitting steady on my knee... i squeezed the trigger and got a shock when the thump sounded back to me... never pulled a shot like it off since Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
my most memerable shot was a rabbit that dropped after a 300 yard shot with an anschutz .22lr loaded with stingers... i remember aiming way over its head and sitting steady on my knee... i squeezed the trigger and got a shock when the thump sounded back to me... never pulled a shot like it off since I also have three, 300yrds with the .22 is one hell of a shot, not saying it can't be done. My best measured one was a bunny in the scottish hills, 175 yds with subsonic stuff. Held at least 2 feet over but clean shot through the heart, never flinched. The only 12 bore double mixed I remember was a woody at 30 yds as it came over the trees out of the woods. As I shot a rabbit I hadn't seen bolted from 20 yds into the wood. Niether made it. But the most memourable shot, because it was taken in a gale and because it showed just how effective a calibre .22 rimfire is for small vermin, was a rabbit I shot again in Scotland. I was resting on a dry stone wall with a swamp in the valley between me and the hillside beyond. Lots of rabbits about, and just deciding which to shoot first when abig ugly looking thing like that one in Watership Down, chased several young ones right into the swamp. Fascinating to watch. He then climbed back up the hillside and sat dead level with me 80yds off and facing away, scratching his ears. It was blowing a gale right up the walley and I estimated 2.5 inches holdover. The view through th scope was crystal, and my mate was watching through the binos. I'd just said ok, bit of holdover, then crack. I hit the big buck rabbit square in the back of the head. We both saw bits fly off in all directions. The shot had emptied it's head, an eyeball flew in each direction and the whole of it's jaw and snout were blown up the hillside. Real clean kill of one mean bunny. Edited December 22, 2008 by cyclonebri1 Quote Link to post
