after having a dog pts early this year from a bad injury

,i was talking to a man who has been in to dogs nearly 40 years telling him how gutted i was he said to me that to him a dog was just a tool!

i was quite shocked at this.

for me its alot more than that and its very hard not to get attached to them.

How attached do you get to your ferrets? I don't give mine a name but I have total respect for them. Funny how attached you get with your dog but ferrets etc, not so much.

dont keep ferrets these days mate but when i did they had names plus had

respect for them ,i cant compare it to loosing a dog tho ,a dog means alot more

as you know there is alot more training with dogs and a bond.

Look at this for getting attached, I was only on the platform for 20 mins, but it was too long for Diesel.

i reckon there are two huntsmen the one's who try and find something that will suit there needs put alot of hard work into them and there dog will excel even though i now a few lads that keep usless dogs but can't tell them any different lol

the second is the a glory hunter as i call them we all no 1 or 2 or even a few .They gets a dog to fit in and talk sh*te about what there dog can do ye right they soon get bored then pass on there poor mut most of the time to another glory hunter just goe's round till someone descent comes along and saves the poor thing

the trueth is we'll never no whats going on in a glory hunters mind

A dog should be for life. if you research the breeding and pick a healthy pup theirs no reason why it wont do the job trained and entered properly.(exept in extreme circumstances)

A lot of people expect their dogs to be world beaters at the age of 12 months,

As for young lads being blamed, its rubbish there are more middle aged blokes swapping round dogs.

They treat them like they would a car, using them for a season and swapping them for somthing else.

a pet is for life but a working dog is quite different,i guess im lucky that i have the set to keep seven dogs but the people that can only have one,if a dog gets injured or to old its got to go,i prefer to give mine the bullit (iv only pts ill dogs to date).i wouldnt want my dogs passed from piller to post,i always find it funny that its ok to buy and sell horse's but not dogs?? one of my mates buy's and sells a few dogs, while they are in his charge they are well fed and housed and he wont sell to w*nkers..dogs arnt human they live for today not tommorow or yesterday!! as long as they get looked after i dont think they care who they are with..

try telling that to my mam & dad becouse if i have to go somewhere & have to leave my dogs at there house becouse i am not aloud dog pens in my back garden any more & they jump the fence. they go mad & whont settle untill i go & get them i even once had one eat a hole through a brick wall in my mams house becouse i had to go somewhere & couldnt tack it  . none of my other mates or family will look after them now becouse they no they wont setle if im not there. only dogs that are use to more than one owner tack to new home easy in my experiance. but then everyone has a different way to bring a pup up & maybe it just the way i bring mine up.

Where can i start with this one, i've bred a pup begging of this year have fed her the best spent alot of time and spent a lot of cash on her no expense spared. Took her out the other night had her first bunny happy not the word one the gratest feeling of owning a pup.

theres so many young dogs for sale some cases i believe are genuine but why get rid of a young dog why buy it if you viewed the perants you have a rough idea what the pups going to turn out like and a dog will only be as good as its owner so if it don't make the grade i beleive you only have yourself to blame i also seen a suluki cross doing the job but the guy wants to sell or swap for the same type of dog unreal. I REALY FIND THIS HARD TO UNDERSTAND

what do you think of this type of hunter are they worthy of owning a hunting companion or are they in it for the buck i don't no i cant work it out you never get rid of a good dog this is my belief whats yours

the one's that really annoy me are the one's that advertise their dogs and add willing to swap for Air rifle, xbox etc.....personally I dont think they should be able to advertise in here

i got my first lurcher pup back in september and already weve been through some really tough times due to my lack of experience, luckily ive meet some amazing people through this site and others who have taken time out to give me a helping hand and kept me and my dog from going off the rails!

blaine is my friend first then a family pet and then (when hes old enough) a working tool so even if he never so much as catches a cold he will always have a home with me!

cheers

if we work our dogs to the levels they work at they will come a cropper now and then...to an extent they are tools.....however a dog shud never be passed from pillar to post....you have a responsibility to put your dog into the best place poss...one of my best friends is a gypsy he buys and sells dogs like you wouldnt beleive ive bought dogs off him in the past..but ive refused to sell him dogs..and told him why..a dog might not neccasarily be for life as i tend to retire mine to pet homes when the time comes...however if a dog is right runs with good heart and is honest it should be afforded the same loyalty it affords us!!! and that should be unconditional!!!

btw lofti you never forget the good ones that are taken before theyre time...i have place in my heart for a few of them....

so what your all saying is dont sell your dogs???????

what happens if some one as bought a dog for fox and it dont make the grade????

i know if my dog when it is entered to them (yes im allowed as there aint no ban here) dont make the grade he will be sold as a RABBIT only dog.

why keep a dog that isnt doing the job ?

its not the owners fault if the dog wont do certain stuff ..........

my dog is bred out of 2 good fox dogs , thats why i bought him .

so if he dont like getting bitten back is that down to lack of training??? so should i now go out everyday and bite my dog so he gets used to being bitten????????

i think not .... some of you are talking a load of bollocks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well they where fine when i had them in pens in my garden when i left then. but home houseing took me to court & made me take my pens down after being in the garden 10 year. the naybers can keep theres & he has more than i had  but i can still keep my dog at my house but there just staying there short term until i build a block of pens up the garden. becuse i dont realy like keeping dogs in the house & i dont realy mind if they have separation angziaty witch i dont think they have becouse i can take them up the garden & leave them in the pen up there & they dont batter a eye lid. i like my dog to have one owner that way they only listen to me when out witch isnt a bad thing becouse i dont pass my dogs about & they stay with me all there life. what benifit whould haveing dog that like being with othere people in a strange place have. & just like you if a dog can no longer do its job then it gets the bullet but i dont go shooting people that cant do a job so i cant treat them that much like a human. more like living tools.

spot on mate if you tried and tested and do it the right way giving them time to mature and trying them more than once to make sure,,, can't see no probs there long as it's sold as a rabbiting dog and not b*llshited about sayibg it's something it's not. then that would be classed as a genuin sale the trueth is you just can't tell theres that many muppets keeping dogs when they can't even look after them selves half the time

always if you are buyin a grown dog see it run, only way and if they dont let it run then knock the price down ive only bought two dogs in my life as saplings 12 to 16 month age and they turned out not bad dogs ,but saw them do a trick or to before money changed hands ,me personaly to many dogs getting bred and noy enough genuine dog men to give them justice ,and alot are not what the owners need as some of them have not got a clue and a fool and his money is easly parted

A lot of fox dogs dont make the grade as they are not entered properly! nothing to do with training, some chav will buy one set it on a fox at eight months and sell it when it jacks. a dog needs to be both physically and mentaly mature before taking a fox.

If as you say, your dogs well bred and you enter him properly(which im sure u will) and dosnt make the grade, i agree you should find a good owner and pass it on as a rabbiting dog.

Im getting at the messers that dont have a clue, that get through 3/4/5 dogs a season looking for the perfect dog (that might not exist!)
