"The dogs are cross bred with American pit bulls to get the speed, strength and aggressiveness. They will go after whatever the handler shines the lamp at- deer, foxes, badgers. There was an incident in the county where they shined the lamp on a gamekeeper as he was walking away and the dog nearly ripped the back of his leg off.

He said: "They see the herd of deer and shine the lamp straight at them to mesmerise it. Then they chase it round the field in a 4x4 to tire it out before setting the dogs on it.

"When they start catching deer and tying them to a post, that's just cruelty. They are probably trying to get the younger dogs psyched up, like training, to teach them to attack a deer."

That's the problem see, Joe public will lap that up and take it as gospel. Just look at what appears in the paper every time someone's caught working badgers with terriers.

It was once a legitimate & effective form of pest control, but now it's all labelled as 'Bager baiting.'

What image does that conjure up to people that know no different?

20 odd blokes & god knows how many dogs stood round a pit, watching a bagged up badger getting mauled by half dozen dogs.

They're trying to do the same with running dogs. Notice any time you see a report on the news about lads 'poaching,' they'll always try to include stuff like, 'these people are often involved in thefts,' or 'they are part of a criminal underworld dealing in black market venison.'

It's all an attempt to use negative propaganda to turn the majority of the public against dog people, who would otherwise be indifferent to people running dogs.

You mark my words, within about 5 years time, people who hunt with lurchers will be seen in the same bracket at so called 'Badger Baiters'

I should add, that I was only using the example of working badgers to get a point across.
