Mk1 locator problems

Recommended Posts

I've seen a few posts about Mk1 locators not working properly but have'nt seen an answer to the problem. I have two Mk1's and they are both very tempremental, the 8ft locator's never been right since i bought it and the 16ft one was working fine two weeks ago when out ferreting but i've tried them this morning and no noise at all from the 8ft and the 16ft just blasts out a loud noise as soon as you turn the wheel. Does anyone know anything about them or has had the same problem? And does anyone know how much Deban charge to service them? Could anyone local to me (Sunderland  ) have a look at them if they know the problem? (for a small fee of course ;) ) Cheers, Liam..

If anyone knows the problem and think they can sort them and want to px for a Mk3, pm me.

Hi mate, i have had the same problem with mine. If you are in your house the MK1 will react badly to other metal interference. I had this and the minute i was out in the field it was fine again. I tend not to use the locator whilst ferreting barbed wire hedges, as the interference kicks in immediatly. Try them both out when your away from the house etc and see how it works out mate

Thats what it must be as it worked fine the other week when out with the ferrets. The 8ft one used to do it aswell but it just did'nt make a noise when i tried it earlier. Cheers, Liam..

Funny thing, i was talking to a guy last night that has a couple of mk1 boxes and he said he had a load of trouble with them playing up,

Well he got on to deben, and was told it is because his permissions are in close proximity to a radio transmitting station.

So it would seem that outside interference is a problem with the mk1s

I think the 16ft will be fine as it was working well the other week but i'll try and clean it out inside or something. It used to scream it's head off but now there is no noise at all so summit definatly wrong, put new batteries in both collar and box, cheers Liam..

I have had a mk1 for nearly 10 years and had no bother at all with that one until recently it began to make daft noices. i stripped it down and ran afew tests on the pcb and found a damaged track which i re soldered, cleaned the board up and now works spot on (i think the problem is that the pcb is loose in the case so i have glued mine down to prevent it rattling andbreaking again).

The second of my locators is barely 2yrs old and has never worked great and has since stopped all together, i lookede at this one inside and found one of the micro chips has blown. i contacted deben and they say they no longer repair the device and wouldnt tell me the micro chips id codes so i could find and replace it myself.

i have a contact to speak to but otherwise i feel this box is now scrap
