donk 12
Went out for a shine on some local land last nite, seemed good conditions so i gave it a whirl. Wind was blowing like mad and there were a few rabbits squatted down as we entered the first field. Ive ran this field for about 5 years, its rough pasture for horses. Slipped the young dog on the first squatter and he missed it,ran straight over the top of it Up jumps the rabbit and runs towards us,i realised the young un wasnt gonna make up the ground,so i slipped the bitch and she coursed it,turned it from the fence and straight into the path of the young fella. He missed it again Now ive got 2 dogs loose (yeah i know bad craic) and a rabbit on speed The bitch is a quicker turner than the dog with her being smaller, and she soon scooped up the rabbit which began to sing like f**k. Both dogs are messing with the rabbit so i legs it to them. Just then theres a weird noise, being a bit para i turns round and flicks the lamp on. Theres this horse gallopping across the field towards me It just kept coming. I made it over to the dogs and next thing i know im on the ground (horsey mud shit piss, kinda ground) Felt like i'd been hit by a freight train And all i can see is the under belly of this horse. I'm thinking 'f**k im a gonna here'. Then my little bitch goes mental, starts yapping at this horse and running around it Quick as a flash im up,over to the fence and diving over it,shouting of the dogs as i go. When i picked myself up and looked back into the field, theres the bitch keeping the horse at bay. Lessons learned? Well,i think the wind might of had the horses a bit spooked and this horse went a bit loopy. Ive never had this happen before. My little bitch jacked on foxes many years ago,but i kept her cos she's more of a rabbitting dog anyway, though when she turned 3 years she did start doing foxes( then it got banned, lol.) So for her to stand up to a horse surprised me Im not a hard bloke and ive lost loads of weight these last 3 years or so,so i guess i went down like a skittle? Very frightening experience, though i can see the funny side of it now,i got to admit i was bricking it at the time. I guess i feel very lucky to only have a bit of a sprained wrist,a sore shoulder and damaged pride? Take care when youre out there people, you never know whats gonna happen. Quote Link to post

loose dog 0
That was a good read, pleased for you that you lived to tell the tale. Over the years i've had dogs that have distracted angry bulls allowing me to make my escape. Not sure how many times i've owed my life or health to the loyalty of my dogs. Quote Link to post

donk 12
Its not something thats ever bothered me in the past, but then again ive never had an incident like that one. Makes you realise how much damage a horse or a herd of cows could do,as i said earlier it gave me a hell of a fright being knocked over so easily and quickly. I can honestly say that if it hadnt been for me little beddy x bitch i think i would have been in a bit of a mess  Quote Link to post
