dangergirl 13
Well recently ive been out 3- 4 days a week bushing with my terrier (16 months) spaniel, and blue the whippet. When we go out the terrier and the spaniel work the thick cover very well, with the JRT giving the classic terrier "yip, yip" when hes on to something. Now blue usually stays on the outside of the hedge as hes recently lernt that fair game could pop out of the hedgerow at any moment. Hes become very focused on recent outings, ears pricked and alert, marking well, and when the JRT opens up he turns into a different dog, very determind indeed, also jumping is superb. Now we all know our dogs well, and should have a good idea of their capabilities. Well last night after a few hours bushing during the day i had a real "want" to take blue out on the lamp. I know hes young (6 months 3 weeks) and ive always been cautious of what i ask of him. Hes a well built dog, standing at 21", and quite well muscled, mentally strong too. Some people might dispute a dog "readiness" at such a young age, but i was confident. It was 21.30, wet and windy for the first night in weeks, so we headed out with blue and the jrt. In the first feild we flicked the lamp around and about 20 metres away was a bunny, blue clocked this right away, so i let him slip. He got a few metres away then the bunny bloted into the hedge, to my surprise blue followed though the brambles, pushing the bunny out into the open where he turned it 3 times before making a clean catch, pinning it to the floor. To say i was chuffed was an understatement. After this bunny we decided that one would be enough for the first night, and i went home a very happy girl. Things are looking good, and hard work is paying off DG x Quote Link to post
