Barrel shortening

Recommended Posts

is it legal for a gunsmith to shorten a shotguns barrel to 24"s?

if so, can they tighen the choke aswell?

how much would this cost?

24 inch is fine mate. ( to keep you legal anyways ).

BUT if a gunsmith does it he will be obliged to have it proofed.

You say "tighten the choke" to what and from what ?

Unless the gun is a one off and worth a fortune ( and it will not be anymore after you get this done ) the cost of the mod will prob outweigh the cost of the gun !!

Is it not better to buy a multi choke ?

Why do you need this mod and why the 24" barrels ?

Tell us more

Cheers

If a pair of barrels is cropped to 24", their is no choke to tighten, as the bit in the gunsmith's bin has the chokes. The only way really, is to have it machined out and threaded to accept multi-chokes. This work along with re proofing will not be cheap.

I recall A J "Smoker" Smith had just such a gun for the Starshot television programmes, in the eighties (was it??) . A Winchester if I remember correctly. Do tell us what you need this for.
