Inocent to proven guilty

about a couple of months ago me and a mate jeppi off hear where out doing abit of lamping we had a poor night and called it a day on are way home we called at tesco petrol station to jet wash my 4x4 and in pulled a bobby t5 came up to us sayed the usual now then lads you been doing abit of rabbiting told them yes they could see lurchers though the windscreen i had had the back windows blacked out ithey asked where we had been told them where the land was who owned the land proved everything even phone number and off they went washed car and set off again i live about 1 mile away got about a cock stride away from my house and blues came on same bobby car checked us out fine and compounded my 4x4 untill they had checked with the land owner that we where telling the trueth that cost me £150 to get my car back they had nothing on us at all they did not even check with the land owner

So the police stopped you questioned you ,then let you go,then the same police came and confiscated your car ,which you had to pay £150 to get returned to you? I'm sorry this doesn't make any sense.On what basis did they confiscate your car ? Did you make a formal complaint out? If not why not?

same happened to a local lad around hear spent 4 days in durahm while it was sorted they did not have a thing on him and when police impound a car they usaly get a garage to recover them then you are liable to pay for the impounding and the recovery of the vehicle even if proven inocent.

Are you saying that a lad was arrested , imprisoned for 4 days, and was eventually proven innocent ? If he was imprisoned ,he must have been charged ,what was he charged with?Why would it take 4 days for them to establish his innocence? A simple phone call to the Farmer ,or even a quick visit would have confirmed his innocence. Something does not add up here. And If your car is impounded by the Police and you are released without charge ,you would recover your vehicle automatically without any fee. I feel the whole story has not been presented here.

what happened was some do gooder saw the lamp a lad with a dog put 2 and 2 together and come up with hare coursing he was picked up off the land and kept in custody till they had been in touch with the farmer and got statements off the do gooder when they relised they had nothing he was let out and the case dropped due to lack of evidence but at first was charged with hare coursing and our police station has no wear to inpound a car there for they call out a recovery firm witch you have to pay to get your car back maybe old bill different around where you live but around hear they dont rush.

I'm not looking for a drawn out argument here,no one has been called a liar.It's quite simple if you have permission to be on the land and someone reports you ,having seen your lamplight ,provided you have no game or Deer in your possession you are in the clear.If you are on land without permission you are trespassing in pursuit of game and are liable to be accused of just about anything that contravenes the Hunting Act.Being on land with a dog and lamp provided you have a right to be there is cast iron ,THE POLICE HAVE TO PROVE YOU WERE ENGAGED IN AN ILLEGAL ACTIVITY.The lad who recounted his story to you seems likely to have left some bits out ,possibly including the fact that he was [poaching without permission and may have been in possession of hares etc,Why else would they arrest him ? On what evidence? Why would they hold him for 4 days then release him without charging him?That in itself is illegal under the law of Haebus Corpus,ie the right of arrest.I coursed hares for 40 years ,but never did it at night ,I must have led a very sheltered life!

Just wondered why you have never lamped hares there was a thread the outher day on a different topic with somebody saying to tell the police hares arnt lamped if approached on a night there are hundreds of people lamp hare at night I know some say there no sport at night thats bollocks now with the ban youve missed your chance should have given them ago.

Just personally speaking I allways prefferred to run hares daytime,that in my opinion is the true test of a coursing dog ,single handed behind a good strong Jan /Feb hare given fair law. I stress that is my choice maybe not everyone's cup of tea,some lads like to lamp hares ,that is up to them,I don't, though on a friends permission ,they are plentiful enough to be a nuisance when you are lamping rabbits. I don't lamp hares for the same reason I would not ever again shoot one ,they are the supreme British animal athlete and are best seen [preban ] with a good long dog behind them .To each his own.
