first digging terrier ?

Recommended Posts

I would try and get out with someone local to you who has been working dogs for at least 5 years, preferably more. Get out as much as possible, show willing, learn everything you can. Then you will be in a much better situation to judge for yourself, and will have some basic knowledge.

I really belive that jumping in head first and buying a terrier is a bad idea, if your anywhere near the north east, you could come out with me for a few digs?

good advice dogs-n-n...... i should say that goes with out saying...all you can do is try but very few get that break and a hell of a lot of lads are self taught only getting a look in when they prove themselves...sad but thats the way it is in the real world :D nice touch by the way.

Everyone seems very keen to tell a guy that has done no terrier work what so ever- to go get a patterdale!!!

Who would sell a pup to someone that has never done or even seen a terrier working???

No offence meant ferret boy charlie, as everyone starts somewhere, but I would have thought it would be nigh-on impossible to be offered a pup from tested workers, as they SHOULD all end up in guaranteed homes! However theres any ammount of peddlers and dealers out there who will offer the best lines going

Get out with people that are out there doing it, and not just talking about it on a computer. Thats the first thing anyone starting out should do, then maybe after a season or two, and with the right permision, or invites think about what terrier is best suited to your needs!

you could always follow a hunt, and once they know your commited and willing to lend a hand ( and not a complete numpty) you will be accepted.
