Guest Chip
i dont know if nuttal still breeds or if he,ll sell to anyone but from what ive read you,d do a lot worse buying out of private ads, or the pm,s your likely to get. for a lads first dog it might not be a bad start... if theres anything available that is. fireman 10,986
Plummers have never been bred as out and out earth dogs, they are mostly bred at this time as a all purpose sporting terrier. Most people who own/work them use them for all types of terrier work, ratting, bushing, ferreting and some are used around shoots as keepers dogs. There are a few lads breeding working fully earth tested plummers but not enough(IMO)and finding a pup from one of these lads(or lasses) is not so easy but not impossible,i was lucky enough to have found such a pup and now as an adult she has worked a few times to ground and hasn't let me down at all,i use her as a allrounder along with my other plummer and this week has been ferreting, ratting and out tomorrow checking a few earths as it's nice and frosty here tonite. So if you really want an out and out earth dog then IMO you maybe should go for another type of terrier but if you want a allrounder with the right entering should do all, then get a plummer as no other terrier can cover such a work spetrum as a plummer can(head down for replys i think ,but i think i'm right and talking in general). dogs-n-natives 1,182
Plummers all the way, go for it mate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have you done much terrierwork before? no mate not at all I would try and get out with someone local to you who has been working dogs for at least 5 years, preferably more. Get out as much as possible, show willing, learn everything you can. Then you will be in a much better situation to judge for yourself, and will have some basic knowledge. I really belive that jumping in head first and buying a terrier is a bad idea, if your anywhere near the north east, you could come out with me for a few digs? Quote Link to post
