After ripping open the crotch of my waterproof trousers I crossed a sheep

 

I dread to think what that will look like

You do need a mod,it will allow you to watch the fox after the shot,so no doubts.

He who dares John..they can only say no.The muzzle flip is another reason(as well as H&S)considering the land your shooting on.

 

The running on...do you think it is because your shots seem a little high on a rew of them maybe,although you would still think that with all the thump,it would drop them no probs had it with the .243 too,a will to live sometimes!!

 

Called in half a dozen recently and not been able to get a shot at any..the way it goes sometimes

As for them running on a little bit after they've been shot, who knows? They could have been lamped last year and not shot at, but are still wary of the lamp, their adrenaline is at full pressure, they're bound to have enough muscle power to go those few yards until they drop.

 

 

It's hard to explain

I shot a fox with the 12g last winter from about 30 yrds and

he took off running,he ran to the nearest ditch and half way up it he came tumbelling back down

Dead as a doornail.

He must have ran -90 yards,

You know TC, if you need me to come over there and shoot them for you, you only have to ask, don't be playing on this sympathy card bollocks FFS With my newly air conditioned waterproofs I'm going to need to pick and choose which bog holes I fall into from now on I don't figure I hit them foxes any higher than normal TBH

 

I've urged the fella taking ya out over the holidays to do his best and see if he can educate ya a little about this shooting craic, I don't envy him the job

I can only remember one fox I shot with the shotgun running on me. I'd been doing a lot of rifle shooting, the fox was crossing me about 30 yards or so ahead of me, instead of swinging the barrel through him I stopped to fire. So I ended up hitting him in the rear half, off he went but I picked him up not long afterwards

The joys of shooting...always something develops in the field ...but it's all part of the "fun"

Excellent read there John .The fox rut is at its peak with us too .Saw 5 in one field last night but could only shoot the one due to a backdrop of houses in a nearby village .Once again ,as someone who lamps a lot on his own too mate ,i congratulate you on a fine night out .

Cheers Deker, how you getting on with that new scope mate?

 

Luck of the draw I think Undi, night Sounder, Danny and myself were out we see ten and get three (should have been four). Next night I go out I see nothing lol, then there was last night, see seven get five, maybe six.

 

Thanks for that FD There's a couple of places I've not ventured into as yet, and one I'm giving a break. My regular foxing buddy was working a lot so he couldn't get out, unfortunately for him no more work at the moment so I'm sure we'll get out together soon. He's excellent with a shotgun and literally being able to read a foxes mind and creep up on them, have to see him do it to believe it really. Great thing about that is with a rifle and shotgun we're prepared for most situations

I would have liked to know the weight of that one. I picked him up to move to another spot for the photo, weight of him. Easily the heaviest fox I've ever shot. Since got a little digital gadget for weighing them, another thing to lose out in the dark some night
