Mr_Logic 5
I've swapped my scopes round a bit as I wasn't getting on with the one on the 243, so my 8x56 is on there for now. Out tonight zeroing in my HMR scope, a cheap but effective JSR 6-24x50. Also took the 223 out with me, which has the Leupold 4.5-14x50 on it now. Zeroed in the HMR reasonably quickly, scope seemed mostly OK to zero, hope that continues! Had a quick mooch and saw a fox, which was unexpected - it was the same ground over which I shot 4 last week, and a total of 19 since about March. Foxy toddled off PDQ so I didn't get a shot, but it did make me decide that a wander with the 223 was definitely in order. I carried on with the HMR, I figured a quick walk and see about a rabbit or two, then on with the 223. Helpfully enough, a rabbit decided to stick his head up around now, and I steadied myself on a fencepost for the -or-so yard shot, and over went the bunny. I dropped the rabbit in to a neighbour there, and headed for the car. Had a quick scan when I got back and saw another one, again about yards away (bit over, the other was likely a bit under). This one also met its maker. Swapped over to the 223 and headed back out. Dropped in the rabbit to join the other one, and then out onto the fields. Main reason for this was to see how the Leupold performs, and if it will do the 400-yard shot I want it to. I had problems with glare from the moderator, but took the mod off to see, and it was much better. Need to figure out a way round it. Of course, in true style, to check the 400-yard point meant I needed to get out to the field in question, where I've seen several foxes. And sure enough, as I was checking out the optics, Charlie put in an appearance. As it turned out, he was partially hidden by the lie of the land, so I moved position to get a better shot, and, unusually, he stayed put. Ended up with a 200-yard shot off a bipod which I took, and a loud thump signalled success. I headed off to the fox, counting paces as I went. I got to 105, and spotted a fox further back in the field. Surely that fox didn't get up? I'd checked to make sure and seen nothing, but I did have the lamp off for a while. I lost this 'new' fox so carried on toward the original one. Sure enough, there was a corpse, a reasonable dog fox: So there were 2 out there... It's crazy, 3 more foxes out there. I guess I have 2 to shoot next week, Christmas special! Dumped the fox in a hedge and headed for home. Just got to reduce the glare from moderators and all will be well. Already have flipups on the Leupold, and sunshade on the JSR. Any handy hints? Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Black Duck tape around the back of the Moderator in like a ramp formation. No reflection from the lamp then. Oh and good shooting SS Quote Link to post

weejohn 3
nice shooting mr_logic, for the glare try moving the scope mount to the back of the scope and put the sunshade on the leupold with the flip up scope cover , i have a leupold on my 22-250 and this is what i have done to stop any glare Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
A bit of insulating tape across the bottom bit of the sunshade may help also, blocks out some light, give it a try. Quote Link to post
