why a bull x

Guest miller1989

when we all go hunting as we do dont we? yes! what does it matter if your dogs guna pull something apart your guna bang it on the head anyway so i dont see a reason for anyone to slate a bull x for its power and determination,if i had a dog that wasnt strong there more likelys to give in as the quarry(TEETHED) is going to give the dog a hard time and alot of cleaning for you when you get in! Ive a bull x.... a very fast dog and does its job weather its pull it to pieces or not its done what i want of it and if it dont bite back, ie bunnys etc she doesnt pull it to pieces :protest: just brings it back!

a bull cross on can be in a league of its own fact anyone says any different does not no what there talking about

Posted Images

whin just about sums it up really they wont do what a sluki cross or a good collie cross will do end of they are habitual arse raggers on deer and we all know how badly deer bruise up they are mostly hard in the mouth on rabbits and will definately blow up when run hard on big land lamping i just dont think they bring to the table what other crosses have to offer all my saluki crosses will take fox and kill em with a vengeance. the bull might have the prey drive the saluki has but they wont have the mouth or cunning or the wind these crosses possess

dont talk rubbish

and why would you say im talking rubbish chum what experience would you base that statement on i base mine on a life times experience from seeing em all run and not just prancing around the show ring or spouting bollocks if you dissagree with what i say put it up here why you dissagree and from what experience you base that dissagreement on until you can do that stop talking rubbish

buddy i have an old nine year old colli cross bitch sheell go jaw to jaw then you do the nessasary and a saluk same , in the country were it is legal, no bull and ive saw coyote hound lift one of the ground and malky it , but realy anybody thta wants a fite to the end no real dog, man, not lurchers any way as a lurcher is a traditional pot hunter and the more strings on his bow the better ,the dog thta destroys them in there legal land would tiol on daylite haRES ROE BOLTING RABBITS POACHING PHEASANTS ETC what atraditional dog should do

Whin has hit the nail on the head, I would never contemplate owning a bull cross Lurcher as they are all Braun, the only reason I can see that anyone would contemplate owning such a beast is perhaps they have failed to enter, a pastoral cross, it must also be observed that when you view these Bull crosses which I have at game-fairs, it would seem by the amount of wounds on their presence that they have in fact failed to undo the ways of their foe, as I’ve never seen a Collie-Cross Lurcher that takes fox on a regular basis to be marked up in this way.

thats because all the foxes the collie cross has has was already DEAD

i mostly walk when i go lamping & when your miles in the midle of no where with a lame dog to carry back home you whould no why i keep bullxs. 1 lurchers i had walk home with a brocken leg onece & she didnt show any pain at all & whanted to course 2 cats in the streets near where i live. bull x lurchers can take more pain than most lurcher not just give it when most lurchers have to go home becouse of cut pads & brocken nail with the od exception bullx just keep going with the ones that have to go home being the od exception.

Why would anyman want to see his ward walk home with a broken leg ????????????????

well what whould you do if you were in the midle of no where miles away from home with a 80lb dog with a broken leg no phone or any way to contact any one to pick you up leave it in pain for hours till someone come looking for you god nows when. i carryed the bitch as far as i could then it was up to her if i whaited for someone to come to fined me i would still be there now & it happend about 7 year ago.

i dont live in a country were i can keep one dog for a job so i keep a dog to do most jobs and i can chuck my dogs in to gether and other peoples ,, i have saw a good bull cross and i mean good and he was less aggresive in motors than my collie cross a real good dog thta spewd the puddens oot any thing but was limited on bigger land but a real gentleman of a dog and didnt even fite when dogs annoyed him heel be 8 now a real dog , he would put his head in a hole and pull whatever came out wagged his tail and was a gem but lacked the pace i need localy , but a good dog in any mans standard but how many are like that ,the dogs alive and well and live astone s throw from biggar in scotland ,but didnt have great stamina or pace if to long a slip , but thats life, as a hole end dog a bolt te out a hole great but not give a foox a hundred yards and get back on it ,

as long as you're happy with you're own dogs perfomance then thats all that counts....althogh i know plenty of lads who own bullx lurchers, 90% are are in it for the look and havnt got a clue what any good dog is capable of, im o expert on any cross but it does seem that bullx owners on this site always have their tails up when ever anyone mentions a slight downside or bad point about the cross. if you want to stand there in the middle of the summer coverd in tatoos swiging beers with your bullx and his bottom jaw hanging off at a show then be my guest.there are some fine bull crosses about but i think a large percentage of owners of this cross really have no idea how to get the best out of a dog! just my opinion and dont want to tar everyone with the same brush but its just the way i see....gimme a good beddy x or deerhound x anyday!

cheers, matt

just thought id post this topic, it seems to me that most people run bull x's all i want to know is why?

i did used to like these dogs but now just seems like everyone has them and ive gone off them, what can you get from a bull x that uyou cant get from other dogs ? in my opinion there is nothing, what do you think

karl

karl as i keep bull crosses i may be biased but the answer is easy - preydrive- a good bull wont let you down - ive used them for lamping and drawing and if hes a good one he wont shirk the issue

iv keped both, bull and collie x iv had a bull x that took deer and fox pre ban,but it never had anymore pry drive than my collies, just more kill power is all and most dont notice pain, always enjoyed my collies, can do anything a bull x can do if bred and trained properly,

Spot on, same here both xs were good. ive found my colliexs more agile than bullxs

both were the same weight 70lb , both were 1/4 xs. Then my 3/8xs bull 78lb and collie 76lb

same again, colliex more agile. As they say its got to catch it first. ???

ok ive a 1/4 bull 1/4 airdale 1/2 grey shes 23mnths now roughly,25tts, doesnt rip things to bits havent tried her for a drawing dog YET, but shes extreamly racey, people say the bull xs shouldnt be run on hares,so what, ive tried her shes had 2 hares,i know its not alot but its 2 out 3, not sure how many ginger things but its a few! and gets a lot of bunnies! hows she any worse than another bull x? im going to put it to this its the ground everyone runs,do you have stone walls hedges dykes etc no1 can fault a well bred bull x if it does the job!

chimp me old son my colis croses are daft enough to draw and they will as i have no other, but was never purpose bred for the job ,and i no maybe two or three collie crosses ive saw mate thta do it but thtas not alot in twenty five years of seeing loads that wont, no if your wanting a draw dog and when fit and throw the [bANNED TEXT] way a bull cross you have a far higher percentage of less failures ,mines are not rabbit dogs mate but they make rabbiting look easy , luke bob lana all took foxes and grappled with things didnt have the jaw strenth to kill but had the balls to try ,i could go out the now lanas nine past she would have it over and jaw to jaw or cheeked then i would do the nessasary ,

for starters chum a saluki bull grey plenty of wind and more than capale on BIG LAND LAMPING so that just about sums up your lifetime experience !!!!

As a specialist dog, for the terrierman, there is no contest, you may get the odd lurcher from other breeds that may suit for drawing day in day out, but if you were going to get a pup to bring on for drawing stuff and catching foxes by day and night, you wouldnt get a collie cross would you!

I dont think the bull cross can compete with the other breeds for rabbits, hares and deer coursing, but again there are bull crosses out there that do the biz. Again I always think, dogs for jobs, whats the best dog for the job.
