rob-s 0
As a specialist dog, for the terrierman, there is no contest, you may get the odd lurcher from other breeds that may suit for drawing day in day out, but if you were going to get a pup to bring on for drawing stuff and catching foxes by day and night, you wouldnt get a collie cross would you! I dont think the bull cross can compete with the other breeds for rabbits, hares and deer coursing, but again there are bull crosses out there that do the biz. Again I always think, dogs for jobs, whats the best dog for the job. As a specialist drawing dog, why cross it with a grey? surely a pure bull would be up to the job. Or would it? how many bull.s that are used for breeding nowadays to fill the demand have ever been properly tested? not too many I bet. As for catchin foxes day and night, two of the best fox catching lurchers I,ve ever seen were a 20in beddy/whippet and a 22in lurcher to lurcher. Quote Link to post
rob-s 0
buddy i have an old nine year old colli cross bitch sheell go jaw to jaw then you do the nessasary and a saluk same , in the country were it is legal, no bull and ive saw coyote hound lift one of the ground and malky it , but realy anybody thta wants a fite to the end no real dog, man, not lurchers any way as a lurcher is a traditional pot hunter and the more strings on his bow the better ,the dog thta destroys them in there legal land would tiol on daylite haRES ROE BOLTING RABBITS POACHING PHEASANTS ETC what atraditional dog should do Quote Link to post
ratmogit 16
is there anything a bullx will do in the uk that a deer/grey couldnt? no. they do it differently, a deer/grey will tend to have more finesse and brains about how it catches but at the same time does it very well. i dont think the chavs like this sort of breeding because they dont look huge and musclebound and dont get scarred up quick. out here both are used, the bullx comes into its own hunting bigger prey ie roos but then we have the roohounds which do it just as well but different. this said i would rather have a bullx holding a big pig on its own than a deer/grey simply because a good one just wont let go. horses for courses i personally would rather a staghound because there are better pig holding dogs as well. what about meeting in the middle. deerhound/greyhound x bull Quote Link to post
Guest Taffybull
guys, i dont think its right that people slate the cross, if one has not had first hand expierence with the cross, and by that i dont mean.. been out on a few ocasions with a mates dog. i think unless you have owned and worked such a cross.. then you should be entitled on giving out your thoughts. but untill then i think people should stop slating, consentrate on their own hound and get out and get to it. same goes for all crosses, not just bull crosses though. taff Quote Link to post
Guest Taffybull
** Whin has hit the nail on the head, I would never contemplate owning a bull cross Lurcher as they are all Braun, the only reason I can see that anyone would contemplate owning such a beast is perhaps they have failed to enter, a pastoral cross, it must also be observed that when you view these Bull crosses which I have at game-fairs, it would seem by the amount of wounds on their presence that they have in fact failed to undo the ways of their foe, as I've never seen a Collie-Cross Lurcher that takes fox on a regular basis to be marked up in this way.** what a load of bollocks Quote Link to post
karl_20 0
sorry lads not been on for a few days, thanks for all your replays i have nothing against bull x's just wanted to see wat people would say, found there isnt really a lot a bull cross can do that other dogs cant maybe they just do it faster, or cleaner, cheers karl Quote Link to post

karl_20 0
why would anyone need a dog to make em look hard? i have a beddy whippet that is 12" tts and it doesnt make me look tough, but then again if i wanted to look tough with a dog i would get somethin with some muscle like a rotty or a german sheperd not a running dog, cheers karl Quote Link to post
lurcherfreak 0
in my experience the bull xs i have seen are very good in a straight line but as soon as the quarry turns the dogs f****d the only thing i have seen a bull x do better than any other dog i have seen are fox which obviously is why they were bread. there probably are decent bull xs out there that can do an alround job but in my opinion there are better crosses Quote Link to post
