Dan_Smiff 2
I have been to the sportsman gun centre (Exeter) at the weekend and they have laid down the law on gun fit in a way that no other RFD has been close to. It has changed my view on shotguns, whereas I had previously been set on buying a Miroku MK70 (having shouldered one in another shop and been told it was 'fine') but the v knowledgable bloke tried me with and MK70 and an MK30 sporter and both were miles off. We then moved over to the Beretta's and they seemed to be much better for me - they had no used ones and the cheapest in stock (a 686e @ £1199) was too much for my already stretched budget. At the time I set my sights (excuse the pun!) on buying a Beretta when one came along around the £1k mark but since then I have decided that to be a little selfish given my/our current financial circumstance. Therefore my question is; Of the cheaper brands out there (Lanber, Bettinsoli, Lincoln, Franchi, Rizzini etc), can anyone tell me if any match Beretta for fit? Does anyone shoot a Beretta alongside one of the cheapest guns and feel they are of similar dimensions? I will go around the RFD's and try some out but if there are 1 or 2 two brands to concentrate on that's help a lot. Hope this makes sense and thanks in advance for any help. Dan Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
Gotta love those RFD's for trying to sell you a gun out of your budget Quote Link to post
Dan_Smiff 2
Gotta love those RFD's for trying to sell you a gun out of your budget In fairness I did tell him that I wanted a 'premium' gun to start with - it wasn't until I'd left the shop that I had a think and a re budget! Matey really wouldn't have sold me anything that wasn't right! I will def get myself something nice in times to come but for now I just can't justify it - double glazing for our bedrooms is further up the Mrs's list of priorities (and mine if I'm honest!). SportingShooter 0
Here's my advice if you can follow it. Do you happen to know anyone who is a shotgun coach or has been shooting for a long time? And will know a little about gun fit? If you do, persuade them to come along with you. Try some guns, ask you friend what he thinks of the fit. The compare it with the dealer, then you get a proper answer. I know its pretty specific but thats what I do. JMHO. SS Quote Link to post
sauer 2
so maybe the wrong thread to put this post into, but at least is an offshoot of this one( no pun intended) regarding "gun fit" what do you guys do?, or try when looking at a gun for fit??? maybe some pointers on here for some of the less knowledable amongst us.... pretty please sauer Edited December 16, 2008 by sauer Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
Depending on what type of gun it is meant to be i.e a Sporter, Trap Gun, Skeet gun, Game Gun etc. Then you look at different things. If I want a rough idea of how well a gun fits someone, I ask them to mount it. I look flat down the rib of the gun, if its a Game gun? Then I would expect to see about 1/3 to 1/2 of the eye above the rib. If they can only see down along the rib of the gun, and not too much on either side, then its a relatively good fit. Of course, you can always "feel" when a gun fits well. If you concentrate on a spot on the wall, mount the gun to where you think the spot is, if you are mounting on the spot, then its a good fit. Best way is to be fitted of course but cant always be the way. SS Quote Link to post
Dan_Smiff 2
The best advice I was given is to mount the gun with your eys closed, be sure that it is in the best position and then open your eye. This way you can tell straight away if your too high or too low - you should ideally be looking straight down the rib without budging your eye when you open it. Then you know that the gun is a natural fit! Quote Link to post
drducati 0
I like the B. rizzinis. They fit well and shoot very well. They are pricier in the US than the Berettas and I think a better gun. Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
There are lots of rumours and suggestions as to gun fit but the fact is they are made to a normal standard fit for the country they come from, or the main market they are intended for. Miroku are Japanese but not designed to fit the average Japanese man! Beretta is Italian and you will find many Italian guns a similar fit... But you can get them all fitted if you have the folding!! claybusers al 9
sportsman did right try going down the sh route steer clear of browning and winchester there the same fit as miroku i know how you feel i suit the browning fit over the berreta and there so many nice berretas out there good luck Quote Link to post
mattydski 560
Just remember when you mount you gun, bring the cheek piece up to the cheek, dont mount the gun then move your cheek down to suit its position.... Does that make sense? (maybe someone can put that in english for you)?? Quote Link to post
cyclonebri1 8
I had real problems when I last bought a shotgun, but I'm tall with very long arms and almost everything was too short and too high in the stock. Mates had brownings, berretta etc and I was looking for similar. Must have tried hundreds new and 2nd hand in about 6 different dealers. I eventually picked up a 2nd hand Laurona sporting multichoke, it fit like a glove and I could shoot that gun better than anything else I tried before or after. Also for me the width of the rib was important, I hate wide ribs, the Laurona was only 6mm. It is a very personnal thing Quote Link to post
Dan_Smiff 2
That makes sense matty - another good tip! Cheers, Dan Quote Link to post
