bullmastiff 615
Looks like the BBC have pulled out of showing Crufts next year, they wanted certain breeds banned from the show (I'm guessing King Charles Spaniel, Bulldog etc). According to the article the KC are going to revise Breed Standards and judging system for the welfare and health of the dog. Thats not going to be popular decision with show breeders! So look out anyone that breeds KC registered working dogs. the show types will be after all your dogs!!! http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/2187/23/5/3 Cheers Luke. labsnlurchers 39
I think the most important thing they need to look at is the way some breeders interpret the breed standards of dogs and the way they select a few 'show winning' criteria ignoring other important factors and breed solely for the show ring. A dog should be bred to be well rounded and be suitable for work show and pet. Hopefully now we can get back to having one 'type' of each breed instead of 3 or 4 types that are the same breed but all suitable for different things.

Gin 498
The best move the BBC has made in a long time,- it can only help the health of those dogs now. Some breeds are in a terrible state.
Rainmaker 7
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I don't understand why it took an 'expose' documentary to get the ArsePCA, BBC, KC etc into action. Surely they all knew the score before some tabloid docu was aired? Just more huff, puff and posturing if you ask me. Still if it gets some end results (less messed up pedigree breeds), that's something. Still, let's see just exactly what 'improvements' they come up with first. If they're decided with anything like the reasoning for the monstrosities occurring in the first place (short nose and heavy wrinkles to drain the bull's blood, anyone? lol) it could all come to nothing... I wonder what the breed books will say in 10 or 20 years? "The [insert breed] was used to [insert task] by cruel sportsmen in the last century, but recognising the terrible temperaments and ill health that this legacy endowed upon the breed, the KC responded by changing the standards to those healthier versions we see today." :11: EDIT: Forgot to add before I hit submit... If only the UK KC lot followed a more European reasoning. Foxhound won't draw cover and flush a fox? It's not a foxhound, don't breed or show it... Greyhound can't race/hunt? Don't breed or show it... And so on, and so on. Obviously there are some breeds who can't perform their duties today, or never had a duty to begin with. Fine; just lump them in the toy/non-sporting section and make it clear they're for prettiness only - but keep them healthy! Look at Germany... If you want to breed your 'KC' reg GSD over there, it has to pass Schutzhund and other breed tests first. Not a bad idea really. I wonder what'd happen if you had to pass a terrier trial before you could show and/or breed your Parson, or your Fox Terrier? It might sound funny, and it'd sadly never happen but imagine the benefits! Then again, those who care about the ability of their dogs rather than their looks and £££ breeding potential £££ are on places like this, not chasing Breed Club ribbons and stud fees

Fieldsports 155
Show dogs They fecked many breeds and all for what ? to gain finance from breeding. The show field wollers might make a dog look bonny but because of there messing about they are short lived. Natural or Original is the words they never use.
Back Stabbath 1
We all need to take a leaf out of Germany's book, and schutzhund countries like iit who require the dogs to pass tests before qualifying to breed.
