Just found a tick on my jill and i don't have one of those fansy little tick removers.

So my question is HOW THE BLOODY HELL DO I GET IT OFF HER ASAP?

Cheers all. Paddy

Hi mate, my vet told me use vasaline to cover the tick, you will cut off its oxygen supply and it should fall off. Won't harm the fert. Best go to the vets this week for the pair of ATOM picks!

Hope this was fast enough for ya!

How do they get them off in the wild?

Got me there! dunno, possibly fall off after full feeding? or stay on till knocked off or die?

Cheers bud. I don't want to go playing around with it and end un causing ferret more pain.

How long is it saft to leave them on for, until i can get to a vets in week

Any decent pet shop sells little "tick hooks" They are devices which literally hook the tick out , head as well.

A bottle of frontline that you buy from the vet will stop ticks going on them, and only needs applying every 3 months.

Cheers. ill pop into town tomorro then

The bottles of frontline are quite expensive but so worth it, my dogs and cats all get treated with it and none of them has had a tick or a flea since i started using it. The spot on 1's which go on the neck are not as effective, so go with the pump spray bottles. Trust me, well worth the money.

ticks do not live on host animals all their lives, they just feed on them, which is how your ferret gets them once underground, normally a tick once full, will fall off and live in the bedding/area, attaching itself to any host animal once it needs to feed again, so always make sure you do a good clean out and fresh bedding after finding a tick, as there could be more, just waiting to hop back on

Cheers bud, ive took all towels out and soaked them in boiling water as i do every time u change them.

And ive also crubbed the whole hutch with boiling water.

Ill get on of those remover things tomorro, sounds like it would be a good idea to check them every time im out befor we get back to their hutch.

Is there anything in perticular i should clean where the tick has been with?

Cheers
