Michael72 0
Hiya, I have a 3 month old Weihrauch HW97K which has had approx 1000 to 1500 pellets through it. I have had very contradicting advice i.e "you need at least 1000 pellets through it then the barrel gets lined with lead making it more accurate" and the opposite of " you must clean the barrel to remove the lead so that the rifling remains clear." Also, how often and what do you think should be done to clean/maintain the workings i.e. spring etc. I read one write up by a guy with this gun who stripped it when it was new saying that the lubrication was poor. Should any changes be made i.e. different springs, seals etc. or is it best to leave it as standard. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Michael72 0
Iv never cleaned/lubed/oiled my gun so i carnt be much help I appreciate your honest reply. I'm shooting at a gun club where the "innacuracy" of my springer compared to rim-fire rifles will no doubt show in the Christmas competition. It's not a serious competition but I'd still like to put a reasonable show so I want to do whatever's best for my gun. That and to make up for my shooting skills being a begginer. Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
I've always cleaned the exterior of the rifle to prevent rusting. Mud and moisture don't go well, with bluing, and added humidity can turn a mint rifle into a pile of scrap very quickly. As far as internal cleaning goes I tend to leave it until my zero is effected. If it's shooting fine, why change it? Only you can tell what your standards are and if your rifle is consistently hitting them, then why risk a variable and then have to frantically get used to shooting your gun again. Confidence in your kit is everything to making a decent shot. Quote Link to post
The one 8,477
I asked that question on another site and was told there no crap that comes off a pellet why clean the barrel Quote Link to post
T78 4
I asked that question on another site and was told there no crap that comes off a pellet why clean the barrel lead pellets definately do leave a residue.i cleaned a hw silencer the other day and the innards were coated in lead dust! as for cleaning and relubing, its a new gun,if you feel that its shootin ok wwith no dieseling etc, then leave it for now. just clean barrel every now and then and wipe over with a slightly oily rag after use. Michael72 0
Thanks for your replies guys. I'm much in favour of leaving it be as long as it's performing OK. I'm happy with the external treatments for the wood and the metal, but the internals I'll leave to someone who know's what they're doing. Quote Link to post

Michael ive had a couple of 97k and there good guns BUT when there made the springs are butchered and theres well to much grease in them after a good internal polishing and a better spring fitted there nott just good there brilliant guns see if you can get a v~mach kit for it atb 8shot Quote Link to post

spike 0
I asked that question on another site and was told there no crap that comes off a pellet why clean the barrel Never shot Accupells? <Raises hand > Dirty pellets, accurate enough though Quote Link to post
DEERMAN 1,020
last time i had air rifle was 30 years ago, but been in army 15 years with bigger air rifles, if you know any one in army ask for weapon cleaning kit, get a pull through ( its a length of cord ,one ended weighted ,other end theres a attachment for flanette) that cleans the inside of barrel, and i would wipe over outside of rifle with oily rag, hope this helps mate. ChrisJones 7,975
<Raises hand > Dirty pellets, accurate enough though Agreed! I dropped Accupells over RWS pellets. I've got better things to do than spend my entire non-shooting time cleaning my rifle in preparation for my shooting time. I know there are field target shooters that clean and weigh every individual pellet... but I have a life and anything that cuts down on maintenance is bonus. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Only service my Weihrauch when it needs a new spring, will only touch the 100T if power drops off. Quote Link to post
T78 4
Only service my Weihrauch when it needs a new spring, will only touch the 100T if power drops off. imo all wweihrauch's need new springs from new! the way they just hack one end off and leave it is no good!obviously doesn't apply to the HW100!)
