daniel8822 0
thanks for your posts ive been making 15 by 15s made about 5 hemp ones and alot of nylon ones, it was my first time trying the hemp nets outand i didnt like them because they seemed a bit stiff and didnt cover the hole as good as a spun nylon would. all the nets i make in future will be at least 18 rows down now thanks dan Quote Link to post
badgeroy 3
16 wide x18 meshes 2and a quarter mesh board, the thinking behind this size mesh is (not mine but feasable) that the rabbits head will come through the mesh and you can neck it whilst still in the net making it quicker to put a new net down. TOMO 26,038
ALL THESE NETS AT 15 MESH LONG ARE VERY SHORT, ONLY 2 FOOT 6INS, ITS OK TO HAVE A FEW IN YER BAG LIKE THAT , BUT YOU CANT BEET THE BIG ONES 24 MESH BEING 4 FOOT LONG WITH A 2" MESH BOARD. Quote Link to post

The way a purse net works is as it says it purses the rabbit, ie traps it in a little bag. If the mesh is large, then the rabbit risks not pursing unless it hits the middle. There is a net with 2 1/4" mesh with no cord or peg that you just drape over the hole, but the name escapes me. All the nets catch rabbits, but to work best the purse net should have 2" mesh for adult rabbits. Quote Link to post
The one 8,463
If you use 2 and a eight mesh the rabbit head sticks out and you can chin it in the net and no need to remove it and risk lossing it Does anybody knit a 2 inch mesh in the middle of there nets and 2 and a 1/8 at each end are those the escape proof nets sold in the countrymans??? How would you lose it. grab the draw cord, grab the rabbit across the small of it's back, and put another net on one handed. You can now open the net and neck it. Quote Link to post
The one 8,463
Sound's easy but ive seen them dropped and had a laugh at the guy doing it.I'll stick to my two and a eightth i find that really easy chining them that way Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,038
i dont know why people find it so hard to chin a rabbit that is well balled up. you DONT need its head through a mesh to chin it. Quote Link to post

There speaks a man who knows what he's talking about. Makes me laugh to see so called experenced rabbiters taking live rabbits out of a net to kill them, then drop the rabbit. Quote Link to post

Something like a 20/15 spun polyester would be just fine. I do believe The Net Loft (mole catcher) has an offer on spun polyester. I think its £7.50 for 500 grms plus P&P. Nice to knit with and nets that last without rotting. Quote Link to post
