Don't know much about blood lines mate. But i find feeding them befor a days work stops them killing underground and then reduces digs. But for some reason they never drink while woking Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
I used to think bloodlines were the way to go, but now I don't, just my opinion, but I think its more to do with who works them, think you dig more if you don't feed them a little in the morning before you go out, ferrets are ferrets. jazz_11 5
i no many would disagree with me but i dont think there is much to do with blood lines. then again. some ferrets will get straight down there and work there socks off and others wont. thats my opinion though.. I think its more down to the mentallity of the ferret, and the conditions and ofcourse how you work them. Don't think blood-lines play a major part. Quote Link to post

pigeonphill 69
people will breed out of there best workers so breeding comes into it somewhere along the line so even when you dont think your breeding to a line you are with out even knowing you are i think that makes sense Edited December 12, 2008 by pigeonphill Quote Link to post
Clipper 207
that does make sense , we wont breed unless theyve proved themselfs to be good uns so as much as people think it dont matter most are bred from good uns anyway Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
Im 100% to lines all the way boys all the very well working ferrets ive used, are very well bred and from decent lines, as the ones ive seen which arent, are absolute shizz just my opinion though Quote Link to post
whin 463
blood line are everything for me and so easy to lose i like ferrets thta work threed ays a week at this time of year and when the rabbs get harder to bolt ,they will stick with them , lost my line not saw many good ferrets lately got one old jill makes the rest look like passengers , my dog ferrets have passed away so short of good ferrets now saw some poor workers lately compared to when i was rabbit trapping thought i would take it for granted but well live and learn Quote Link to post
The one 8,494
Im not bothered about blood lines ive got a couple of kitts from a few guy's off of here when i needed replacements but i would only breed and keep from ferrets that have proven themselves Quote Link to post

Brimmer 220
I lost a good line a few years ago, it had about 5 generations going into it, these were all bred out to decent working stock, and after trying for a few seasons to mate the old hob, i realised it was him that must have been a jaffa. Too late at this point. Shame really, around % of the litters would make the grade on that line. Luckily we got some decent working stock of an friend and started again, but it was slim pickings last year, we only had one decent hob ferret untill last years kits started getting into it! The not feeding them the day before can put the edge on them a little, but i think they can fade a bit after a lot of graft later in the day, I prefer to let them eat there fill outside the cage the day before, then put them back in the cages without any extra food, they are not starved into working, just kept on the hungry side. At the start of the season, usually my ferrets are pretty fat and out of shape, working far too heavy for the first few outings, this has the same effect as feeding them on the day, or leaving them with a load of food in the cage, they do ok, but i know when i'm not digging that much, there not shifting or sticking with the stubborn rabbits. Yes the bloodlines help to throw out great stock, and I suppose in a way, it's only the showing ferrets that breed for looks rather than what most ferreters do, and breed the best workers again and again!
