Snow wont go!

Recommended Posts

After watching the forecast most of the week, the weather looked shocking for the weekend, so managed to scab today off work! Cheer's boss! :notworthy:

Arrived at around 8.30am and the snow was still hanging around, (nearly 2 weeks now) and a heavy frost covered the ground, also the dreaded mist!

We wanted to get to new ground really, but had to be satified again with clearing up odd's and ends on our land. (the old feller at 70 cannot manage the big hike's any more.)

Took out 2 of this years poley hobs, quite big now, alongside one of the older albino's. These are two of four young hobs from the same litter this year, all are getting pretty good now, and are really quick.

We took the two young dogs out as well, they have been run together as they learnt the ropes, but now it was time to split them up, one of them had been getting lazy, and just watching the other one work untill he found something, then diving in for the run.

He had too work for his rabbits today, and has improved by working alone.

More rabbits bolted today than usual, and to be honest the young ferrets showed the older one how to do it, they are getting really good.

By 1.30 pm, the old feller had had enough, and i left him to gut the rabbits, we had 21 at this point. Whilst I covered some more land coming off to the gate.

It took around another 40 mins to make my way there, with a few marks (which were bolted or dug), and the odd rabbit picked off the seat. This took the final total up to 26 rabbits.

No huge bag, but decent for tidying up land done a few weeks ago.

It looks like the snow is melting as we left though, should be able to get to some fresh ground next time!

Well done there :clapper: the snows nice for about a day or so and then you get sick of it, especially when its coupled with hard ground. You did well to get a bag like that, up my way theres very slim pickings rabbit wise compared to how it was years ago, top job :clapper:

Cheers for the replies fellas.

SJM yes the snow gets boring after a while.

Whippeter honestly you do not want the snow.

Will school is a terrible place for an outdoors guy.

Hubbs the soft snow will help the pup to catch, but when it crusts up, then it makes it harder!

Festa good luck on sunday.

Stealthy they are turning into flying machines, my old man looked shocked when he saw one of the poleys leap 2ft off the ground and latch into a rabbit i was trying to despatch.

Chez keep on laying them bricks pal, not many chaps are busy now! You'll have plenty of time over xmas mate!
