JordKil 0
Iv always wondered if its worth going ferreting at night time? (well when its dark) as I have more time then.If so is there anything different you need to do (apart from a torch lol) like types of nets whether you longnet or purse net etc. Cheers Jordan Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
alot of downsides, Loose nets, Loose ferrets, cant see, rabbits tend to be out at night feeding (hence they lamp at night) so would have to be scared back to ground. Quote Link to post
taff3915 2
me and a mate can only really ferret at night out of the last 10, 9 times have been at night once in the day in the day we got 2, at night our average is 9 lol so we actually do better at night. Quote Link to post
JordKil 0
Most of the rabbits in my area are easily scared back to ground especially by my dog as thats the only thing he can do (not catch them he's not skillful enough) so i would take my box of ferts and dog to scare the rabbits and then get them underground with ferts that would work?...right? TOMO 25,988
used to do loads of night ferreting years ago , usualy on very moony nights. did all the places that you couldn't do in the daytime like the parkland on big estates. walk the rabbits in first, use both longnets and purse nets, no need for a torch, but they do come in handy when you have to dig and you cant see in the bottom when you break through. also did some fields next to a power station, loads of light polution so need for moonlight TOMO Quote Link to post
rabbit tourmentor 29
white ferrets a torch bells on your ferrets and nets to alert you of catch Quote Link to post

Lots of longnetting still goes on at night mate, is the proper way of using a longnet shame i cant do it :s Quote Link to post
jakeuk1 0
like Tomo said dont use your dog to chase rabbits back to the warren, walk them in, because they seem reluctant to bolt once chased and diggin at night is a pain. Ive only tried it once its obviously a lot more difficult, a torch is a must unless full moon you dont want to be cutting your ferret in half with the spade! We used the little glowsticks you get for floats when night fishing and attached them to the locator collars. Quote Link to post

whin 463
done it in 85 just to try it we had acouplre of lurchers and home made lamp we picked our warrens , but not realy great but we did baga row and cleaned out a few woods with pheasants , a waste of time for me realy as it was athree mile walk when there weremore profitable game , better early morning in late summer if open burries ,we used to do some big estates .but realy rabbits were worthless only sport but when you walk 3 miles there better game to be had , not hard to ferret at nite in the [bANNED TEXT] spots , Quote Link to post
