baldockbanks courser 598
most traverling man round here have shit hot dog well so they say .. alot of people will talk up there dogs yes. But its a fact that travellers are more liklie to out a rubbish dog. which is why only the best is breed from. to be honest theres too many women and tarty show people who keep rubbish dogs because there too sentimental get read of them. most the dogs at summer shows couldnt handle half the hammer one off these real saburu dogs take week after week running where ever there slipped. yes i agree theres a lot of bad apples but theres also some very nolegable genguine dog men in the english traverlling comunitie. fishfish 17
What is a true lurcher that the p***y's use for coursing? Is is a Greyhound x Whippet x Bedlington terrier x Collie????? I'm new in this and was just wondering... according to what ive allways been told: sighthound x sighthound =longdog sighthound x collie = lurcher sighthound x any other dog = runningdog. this is backed up in the book 'its my delight' by brian vesey-fitzgerald. And they didnt even check my dogs breeding so tecnically it should have been a longdog silly them! Link to post

brookie 1,193
for what its worth ive been involved in running dogs for over forty years and the best dogs ive ever seen have been travellers dogs and the best dogmen ive ever known have been travellers. some of the finest dogs running in the country today are traveller owned all this shit talk about p***y this p***y that by idiots when ever a dog is stolen its travellers half the dogs put up stolen a traveller wouldnt have if he was given money to take it. travellers have bred some of the finest dogs in the country consistantly for the best part of the last half century up until modern day i know of one man who this year sold two dogs for nearly twenty thousand pounds dogs he reared himself and trained himself like baldocks said theres to many women and tarty show people involved in lurchers today Link to post

Guest Countryboyo
Travellers rarely use smoothed dogs over here. always rough deerhound types and they consider these to be true lurchers. If there is such a thing at all. all the proper coursing men use saluki x Define proper? Just so MP understands the word "define", state or describe exactly the nature, scope, or meaning off. thank you, for putting me straight on that, but if you open your EYES and take the time to read my reply i was on about COURSING HARES, thats why proper coursing men use saluki x Well mucky paws, just want to say sorry about my original "define proper" post i picked you up wrong. makes sense now though. Terrie 12
The tinkers near where I live all have deerhound crosses. One stole a horse off a lad in my area so he drove down to the caravan site and leveled 8 caravans wight his JCB. But I have to say you get some honest tinkers. I used to box with them years ago . there good lads to box. There was an excellent programme on RTE 1 about their culture and tradition last monday . About them fighting bare knuckle and their weddings. Its Interesting how they only marry other travellers mostly very young when they are around 18 and often their first cousins. Its very interesting and a lot of them are very religous. In Ireland they claim to be the original inhabitants of the country and decendants of kings and their line is pure because of not marrying outside their comunity. They do look physically different to the native settled Irish and this is because of their small genepool. Very interesting proud people in general with great traditions and I always said I would love to hear their stories and maybe doccument them some time. If any one is wanting a insight into the way of the travelling life then i would highly recommend these books. written by "Jess Smith" Jess's journey tear for a tinker tales from the tent also written by "betsy whyte" yellow on the broom red rowans wild honey. these are fab reads and very infomative into the way of their culture. jackard 36
Still no awnser as to what is a PROPER lurcher... i would say a proper lurcher would have to be a roughhaired lurcher ( deerhound , beardy, beddy x) back in the old old days when all running dogs where band and the dogs destroyed , people began to cross the greyhound and the whippet with dogs that had long haired dogs. the off spring from this breeding also had roughhair which hid there shape of there dogs but the dogs still could put food on the table . so to me a proper lurcher would have to be rough haired with any off the above in the mix Link to post
