i think they look difrent cos they originaly come from a difrent part of the world, im shure i remember reading they origonate from over near india , pakistan , afganistan , they then started wandering over to europe, and eventualy hear.

 

maybe one of the travling comunity on hear can put us straight on there origins, TOMO

i know the true romany gypsies origonate from indian hills,

if i put pictures up of my family like my grandad there proper 'black faced needys'.

 

 

but some (not all) of the nackers from ireland who come over here are not travelers at all just scum who give the proper ones a bad name.

Thats not true in the slightest . Definately not about the Irish travellers anyway. They are white caucasian like the rest of us in the country but have a distinctive look from centuarys of breeding within their own group. They are all related in some way and consanguinity (marrying first and second cousins) is highly practised within their community. This keeps their bloodline pure but also causes a lot of health problems within the community and they have a lower life expectancy than the rest of us. Bare knuckle boxing is a huge part of traveller tradition and another reason they marry within the family, To keep the fighting line strong. Dogs are another huge part of traveller life and are often seen at coursing meetings and always fairs. The travelling people of Ireland are in noway releated to the dark romani gypsies who have much darker skin and features. Its a pity more work isnt been done in this country to learn more about the life and traditions of or nomadic traveller people. I live near a place called rathkeale in Ireland which is a town with the highest traveller population in the country. Over half the population of the town are travellers and they are all absolutely loaded with money, The houses and vans these guys have are unreal. They have the best of fashion and run some great businesses. and fair play to them!

The first Bull X's I ever saw belonged to Gypsies, in the 70's, around the Newcastle area, but mainly they seemed to prefer the rough coated Deerhound types. Nowadays, they are just like the rest of us and have different preferences as far as Lurchers go.
