Guest air gunner
Hi everyone I was just wondering where do you lot buy your pellets? are they a mail order affair or local shop? I have seen them advertised on E-bay and other sites and was wondering if any of you had any experiance. i have a shop near bye but they dont sell every pellet under the sun so some are not available. which sight if any is best to order from? Also what is better a pellet that deformes or one that is really solid? i have flimsy pellets such as RWS hobbys and some bisly superdomes which are solid and dont deform but just pass through if they can hardly changed. for hunting with a 12fps BSA supersport which pellet is better the hobbys are accurate up to 40yrd (and they are flat head!) and the bisleys drop slightly more. But the real issue is which kills better? im still experimenting and have now just about got through my first 1000 pellets. hobbys wasps and bislys. the Wasps were quite frankly Shite. hobbys ok and bislys slightly heavy but that can be sorted with a spot of zeroing. From what i have heard flat heads are not suitable for hunting is this so? Quote Link to post
hughesey1552 0
it isnt that they arent good for hunting as id imagine the larger surface are would be quite effective at delivering energy but they arent very accurate at 35 yards, not as accurate as roundheads anyway. Also you will find that not a lot of pellets deform when using a sum 12ft/lbs air gun becuase the power just isnt there. I use Field Target Trophies, they do the trick for me but ive heard good things about bisley long range gold pellets. I tend to buy mine from my local shop which incidentally.....was voted best mailorder gunshop for 5 years running (no i dont get payed by them for this lol). Have a look at their site.....www.targetsports.co.uk Hughesey Quote Link to post

Air Gunner Hi the RWS Hobbies that you are using are indeed a light pellet that i personally have never got on well with, i have never tried them in a rifle but have used them in a pistol for target 'paper punching' and i have found them to be inconsistent in diameter in comparison to other pellets, some of the pellets sit well in the magazine whilst others are sitting proud and some sit quite low, also as you say they are a light pellet coming in at a mere 7 grains in .177 calibre, i wouldnt personally bother with flat head pellets at mid to long range but if you want to try some that are more suited to a rifle than a pistol then i would opt for a heavier flat head, something that would equate to about 8 grains in .177, crossman matchpells etc, Bisley Superdomes ?, do you mean Bisley Magnums or Superfields, or RWS Superdomes ? all of which are nice pellets, a pellet that deforms will transfer most of its energy into the quarry and result in a clean kill whilst a pellet that passes through the quarry with little deformation will retain most of its energy, but consistency of pellet placement would be my prime objective and any well placed pellet in a given quarries known kill zone should do the job personally i would use a domed head pellet, so the superdomes or other such pellets would represent a good starting point, i would be inclined to find a good quality domed head pellet that groups well in your own particular gun, it sounds like you have tried a few already and have discounted some along the way which is a start, why not try AA Fields, H & N Field Traget Trophies etc and start looking to mail order when you have found a pellet that you are happy with J Ramsbottom are a company that i have bought pellets from before and they offer a bulk discount if you buy boxes of 10 tins at a time but i would only go mail order if you are already happy with the pellet choice also bear in mind the cost of postage and packing, ten tins of pellets is a fair old weight and ramsbottoms are charging £8.49 for delivery of any order which contains pellets so i would be inclined to wait until you need other stuff as well as pellets i have heard of a company called pellpax but have no experience of dealing with them, maybe someone on here could shed some light on them for you all the best fin and fur Edited December 12, 2008 by fin and fur Quote Link to post

Geoff.C 0
For a big choice and trial packs of assorted pellets try the pellpax website. I posted this in the airgun section a couple of weeks ago. Don't know if anyone has tried them yet? Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
I use Eley Wasp Blue in my old "real" .22 12ft lb and Air Arms Field almost exclusively now in my 26ft lb FAC Falcon. The Daystate MK111 lives in the cabinet..I lost the key...and f**k knows why I got it anyway...make me an offer..it is the special with the rosewood etc!! Mail order tends to be expensive because of the weight: I am fortunate enough to travel a bit in the course of my shooting and ALWAYS make a point of dropping into new gun shops...so usually find what I want without much trouble. Trouble with "shooting" is it can be a real problem to get what you want!! Edited December 12, 2008 by Deker Quote Link to post
clubshot 22
Issue with Pellets - Lead is Weight Expensive to move around And easy to damage if thrown around in unprotected Tin / Boxes There are a Few major Mail Order Stockist But most Dealers do not buy in large numbers As aware the majority buy them in Bulk or via Clubs that Often Buy them in Bulk for Members BOB/R Quote Link to post
