stubby 175
, or give them a bath a rat can tread water for over 48hrs, dont give advice unless you know its true think he means drowning them oh I know that, but will, would not say that on an open forum as its ILLEGAL, Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Think you should give up on this Idea, feed it dry if she can't stand the sight of rat being killed, your in danger of becoming creul for no reason, letting a rat loose with a ferret in a caravan every time it needs feeding is just ludicrous. Im with stealthy on this. Ferrets would prefer the easier meal rather than chasing after a rat in a caravan when they can be fed something easy like mince or rabbit. Also surely its illegal to feed live animals to pets in Denmark? Quote Link to post
Guest ferret feller
they use jills ratting Will as a jill can get down easyer and hobs cant.... but in the open a hob would kill one alot better then a jill imo all the best ff Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
, or give them a bath a rat can tread water for over 48hrs, dont give advice unless you know its true not if you dunk the cage inn the water, hold it down for 1 or so minute, and its a goodun Quote Link to post
hubbs 178
This all seems piontless and as mentioned out in the open or in a box a hob will do better than a gill but gills are smaller and will fit much better down the hole .In a caravan this seems stupid and not worth while the rat will be bouncing off the walls and all sorts i dont see the point.. I had a long haired hob that was used on rats and bless him he did end up with a bad scar near his eye and this did put me off the terriers find it hard enough against a good sized one and in the eyes of death the little devils will fight to the end.. Plus the fact there cant be much nourishment in a rat. It just seems a little cruel and pointless . Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
I would either get food which is easy to get like rabbit which i can get myself or dry. much less hassle. Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
I was just thinking, Why would you want to feed rat anyway??? Quote Link to post

Also surely its illegal to feed live animals to pets in Denmark? No not really. the law says that you HAVE to kill the animal as quick and painless as possible. so you can feed a rat if you are sure the ferret will kill it within a second... but I don't think thats going to happend.... it's leagal to feed live mice to snakes and so on. And for the record to some of you. I'm not the one wanting to give my ferrets living rats. Maybe I misunderstand some of the posts as this is not my native language, I don't know? You can buy dead and living rats for the feeding of snakes and ferrets and rats are fine as ferret food, but I just don't think they should be given alive. My own ferrets gets mice, rabbits, rats, chicken, duck, pidgeon etc as i believe in BARF feeding, but not on the account of my ferrets... Edited December 12, 2008 by Flying Ferrets Quote Link to post

I think you will find you are supposesed to feed them live if it is a must to keep them alive or feeding thats why snakes are fed this way. There is just so many ways of feeding them as they are so popular and the fact you are risking them losing an eye for no reason is stupid i just think you dont understand it.. Its like leaving a cow in a dogs kennel theres no point really.. Quote Link to post

Guest ferret feller
at my college we have to defrost mice for the snakes we have started to breed our own feed mice for them though.... this means we have a production styl breeding tank with a shoe box size room for each pair doe and buck and they make babies about 10 ish every few months... we have 120 breeding pairs... we have to kill the mice before we put them in the tanks... Flying Ferrets 0
thanks ferret feller But ehm.... she can't really go hunting because of the fact that theres only rabbits in Denmark on a very small island not near where she lives.... not much ferreting going on here but also... when afraid of killing a rat, they maybe hunting isn't the best option for that person Quote Link to post
Guest ferret feller
if she is affraid of killing them then she shouldent.... imo if she has a problem dont live trap them if she wants then gone either call in a "profesional" or trap them with a snapped.... Quote Link to post
