Flying Ferrets 0
I know a young girl here in Denmark who is determined to feed her pet ferrets living adult rats. Shes afraid of killing the rats and so the thinks it is easyer just to let an adult rat og two into the carravan where she keeps the ferrets (yes she keeps ferrets in a carravan..), and let the ferrets handle them. I believe I have read something inhere at some point about rats being able to hurt ferrets quite badly, so if any of you have some pictures, a story or something of a ferret being hurt by a rat I would be very grateful! I know its an odd question but I really cant get the same advice on a pet forum. Quote Link to post
chb lad 7
i no a man whos ferret lost an eye hunting rats. i also lost a ferret by feeding it a mouse Quote Link to post
JordKil 0
If she just puts the rat in a small box with a rat trap and leave it a while it'll be dead fairly quick. Live rats can put up a good fight even against a ferret no problem giving as good as they get. Mice arent that bad iv found (my ferrets get them regularly under my shed and pull them out its great lol) Quote Link to post
Flying Ferrets 0
I feed my ferrets rats, rabbits and mice... but dead. I dont mind shes wants to feed rats to her ferrets, thats fine, but she wants to just let the rats out in the caravan with the ferrets, maybe for fun, maybe because of the fact that shes afraid of killing them herself. I'd like to be able to tell her something based on peoples experience instead of just "ehm.. just dont think its a good idea...." Thanks for the ansvers so far Quote Link to post
Brimmer 220
If they are wild rats, then she had better get used to finding them still alive after days loose in the caravan, and hungry ferrets. They will give a good account of themselves in a confined space, but usually the ferret if up to the job wins. Let loose in a caravan, the rat will run rings around them with the space availiable, and probably get out of any exit, even tiny. Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Who would die of starvation first, the rat or the ferret? why not buy frozen rats. Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
a big hob shouldnt have much of a problem but if its jills, they might have a problem.... i personally wouldnt do it but thats me. Quote Link to post
will.f11 24
A good jill would do it. As the hobs are shite at rats and are pussys but a nice little working jill should nail a rat. But why doesnt she just let a dog kill em, or give them a bath Quote Link to post
jazz_11 5
i think both hobs and jills will do it either way because its natural to them. but i think a jill will struggle, but thats just me because i have very small jills... like will said give them a bath or something lol... will.f11 24
No mate, a hob wont do it. If you speak to any experienced ratter with ferrets, they will tell you, jills are the right tool for the job they rat the best Quote Link to post

stubby 175
, or give them a bath a rat can tread water for over 48hrs, dont give advice unless you know its true Quote Link to post
Flying Ferrets 0
These are not working ferrets, I think they have killed mice but thats it. I know it would be better for her just to give dead rats, my problem is that she won't listen. I think maybe she will listen if i have some facts instead of my own guessing. I know how to kill rats btw, its not leagal to drown them in denmark, the normal was is to slap them quick and hard against a table or something and then break their neck. I think the ferrets would win too, if they can catch the rat.... but isn't there a quite big risk that they will get hurt too? Quote Link to post

Maybee a few battle scars, but the rats teeth are not designed to kill like a ferrets. Maybee she needs to see what a ferret is up against, maybee she will decide that her animals are lacking after an introduction to the rat. Quote Link to post
