Recommended Posts

im wondering why there is such a differance in the price of vet fees

in the uk and here in ireland

having been fleeced every time i visited the vets in the uk

here in the west of ireland vet fees are peanuts had a dog put down

yesterday €20 approx £13

one of the dogs had an abses 2 jabs & 2 jabs in the abses then drained

loads of tablets €30 approx £20

never been charged no more than €35 for a visit

what would this cost back at home in the uk

i would like to know what you have been charged in the past

one of my dogs got caught up on a security fence, dont ask how ,its along story, eventually getting him down, with a fork lift truck,we took him to the vets, terrible wounds.

anyway,he had180 staples in his back leg,his foot was totally peeled off,his pads was on the top56 staples in there,antibiotics,injections,x-rays for that visit alone it was nearly£280,the dog is fine now and still working hard,we went on to the vets for about another five times after that, and that was nt cheap either.he was worth it ,to replace him then ,well it could nt be done.thats just one experience, for my horses ,well even dearer.VETS IN ENGLAND CAN CHARGE WHAT THEY LIKE,why do you think there coming down hard on even the littlest of things like wormers, antibiotics and the likes of that, they are loosing thousands,i know somebody thats a court for selling these items,im wating to see what they do to him.

:good:

ps by the way we have a £50

hello fee at our vets too

Down my way everyone, except me, has pots of money the cheapest house you can buy would set you back 150k+ for a two up two down terrace  Vet's charge what they like in most practices here, pts about £40 first visit 18 - 25. My vet is ok imo and charges sensible prices, cheaper for small animals like ferrets :good: ...Perhaps vets in BB's area would rather charge less cos they know they will get nothing if they charge too much as some owners might take their dogs for a walk in the woods

talking of walks in the woods,i think personally,if you have the front to do that in the first place, you would never get a vet bill, although people do this i know we hear of it often,in my eyes i just could nt do it ,a dog i love so much, its not right for it to end that way,but i know that all in all its the vets price that make most people who do take there dogs for a walk choose that way,SHAME ON THE VETS. :good:

I reckon a lot of business's play the price game not just the vet's. Few years back I was chatting with a dog man from the valley's and was surprised to learn that dog food there was much cheaper, his explenation was that if the dog peopla aint got the money they wont spend it so price's have to stay down :good:

My vets are incredibly expensive. Just a month ago one of my lurchers got caoght up on barbedwire. He had a big chunk of flesh hanging from his leg and puncture wounds on his chest and belly. £75 before anything was done because it was a weekend and an emergency. Just for him to be stitched up and have a few antibiotics it cost me £600!

Just for a dog to be vax'd is £50!

You,ve got to be unemployed to use the p.d.s.a, havent you? I had mine in over the christmas period, but not actually in the holidays, with a compacted gut, due to a bone. He charged me £100 callout, cos i took the dog at 7 in the morning, then he kept him overnight, sedated him and x rayed him, 2 enema,s and painkillers, another £300 quid. The fact that a lot are insuring their animals , is driving the prices through the roof, my vet asks you, before making out the bill, if the animal is insured..........robbing b*****ds.

after looking at some of the extorsionate vet bills

fellow members have had to cough up i tend to

agree with baldie 99% of vets are robbing b*****ds

how can they justify those bills

maybe one of our members is a vet or vet nurse

they could explain why we get fleeced every time

we have to visit

Had a compound fracture of the femur on one of my bullx's it shattered nearly 5" of bone near to the hip socket it needed 3 operations putting pins and wire in and took 6 months before she could work again. She barely limps now unless she is stiff and I was only charged £600.
