sandymere 8,263
Thanks alot sandy, shes on raw and cooked at the min getting alot of liver her white blood cell are back and when i first took her in had vertually no platelets! this is how the put it after 2 weeks her plates say there were 5 platelets in her blood multipied by 1001 not that it made much sense as a forgot to ask how many there should be, they took another blood test yesderday and i get that back on monday morning, they said shes looking great! do you think it would be safe getting her fit for the new year or giving her a little longer as she seems game now but shes still getting drugs so.obviously i wouldnt try her know! Platelts should be nearer 400 but definatly going in the right direction but be careful to avoid knocks untill they are normal as her ability to form clots/stop bleeding may be comprimised while still low. Could have been a warfarin + anti platelet type drug, probably rat bait, that she ate so watch were she goes around farm building etc. It would be interesting to know what her INR (international ratio) was as this is the main clotting screen. Though I must admit that i'm assuming it would be a standard for dogs as in humans and normal is 1. Once her INR/ platelets are normal then the risk of bleeding is pretty much back to normal. If her Hb(red blood cells/iron) are normal then she probably hasn't bled internally but if low then this may have happened, ask the vet? As to getting her fit after the new year I'd say if bloods are normal and she seems well then a month of gentle exercise, and if alls well, increase gradually from there. Good luck and well done so far s Just a thought did she have any recent viral type illness? as thrombocytopenia may be 2nd to these at times. Quote Link to post
Guest miller1989
no she didnt, and the vet seems to think her platlets are nearly normal now! she had rash and blood blisters little ones all over her gums and behind eyes but she did have internal bleeding at one point and she does have little bruses(bleeding inside)but the platlets are aparently doing the job so fingers crossed for monday when i get the final blood result back! thanks alot sandy you seem to know the buisness mate! summat decent 0
Well for those that didnt read the last post few weeks back had a realy ill dog called fern my bull/airedale/gh 22mths, the vets still dont seem to know exactly what poisen it was,it was a learning curve for them and me to she didnt eat for 9 days, was vomiting blood, bleeding inside, had no white blood cells in her body etc cud [bANNED TEXT] an essay about what she did and didnt have! But shes now on recovery, thankfully. My medication runs out end of next week ive steriods anit biotics, eyedrops etc! and when they run out do you think a week later if she doesnt need anymore medication she will be ready to get fit! im only asking because ive never had a dog with such serious ill ness and wonder if it will do more harm than good to get her fit for the new year when im hoping to get back into the swing of things! Thanks for your help everyone! This is fern here! miller I would give her natural yoghurt and pulped vegetables in with her raw meat, also some heart, liver. Reckon she will tell you when she is ready to get going again. Quote Link to post
