Guest Countryboyo
surely a wolf hound crossed with a grey would just end up much like a deer hound? the recreated wolf hound is just a shaggy large dog nothing like the ones that used to do the job.i think they are deerhound mastiff x's with a bit of great dane for size(and unhealthyness) scotty NOT TRUE really!! what is the truth then? the only bonus i can see with crossing a wolfy would be to produce a healthy wolfy looking dog!! one that would live longer with out having to be on pain killers. so then where did they come from? the big giant dude in Ireland? scotty Not true , One of the oldest breeds there is. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: :clapper: well thats that sorted then!! shows a lot about you my friend. older than salukis and greys? scotty Never said older than salukis and greys My Friend. But this whole theory that they were bred with mastiffs and danes was something that was made up by the English out of jealous of the Mighty breed of dog that did not originate in their country FACT!!! The whole if its not yours its no good mentality. Also there was a british bitterness about the breed as they were trained to pull british soldiers off their horses. Dont believe every silly article you read pal. Things tend to get twisted and turned around to suit their own people. Good lad. Im sure your a nice guy and all Maybe a young fellow??????????? just be carefull about being gullable about believing certain things you read Quote Link to post
kent scotty 0
:clapper: i only feel young i'm not really!! i think you.ve been reading to many fairy stories.if they are what brought down wolfs then either the wolves were very slow(maybe they were fat from eating all the stupid english?) or really sleepy! because they really cant run for very far.it would be a good dog for the shows but will never be any good for anything in the uk. the dogs in aus and the us are very different from the recreated breed we have here. scotty Quote Link to post

Pops 19
can't say much for y'all, but the irish wolfhounds in the USA go back to the stuff created by captain Graham in the 1860s. no ancient breed here. we do have a few kennels very active in open field competition on jack rabbit (american hares). catches are few & far between. may be some blood in out stags way back. shepp 2,285
irishwolfhounds are a re- created breed they died out when wolves were made extinct in the uk. the original wolfhound would have been more like a deerhound. That was my conclusion too after reading books, articles in magazines, internet sites and talking to wolfhound owners. But we have been corrected on our logical conclusion by Countryboyo, apparently the wolfhound is a pure breed going back centuries and those who say otherwise are part of an English conspiracy against the Irish and their fine canine breed. When i get five minuites i must ask him the real truth about the moon landing, JFKs shooting, 9/11 and Princess Diannas death. Quote Link to post
