not to fussed on the law honestly as all the work i do is legall now . lol , but im not breed blind like gnichloson , but i am a scottish beardie fan AS I AM SCOTTISH AND STILL SEE THEM TIME TO TIME WHEN IM OUT HUNTING , all i asked was how they are bred and what they are like there young dogs as you say,i have plenty permiss to hunt but lots of areas wrere u can go , just like to see if there decent ones about now as lanas coming up for nine and cant see her breeding but maybe u never no as she is still fit , i need to look a head i can get a kelpi cross no prob but never seeen enough to judge them ,working the land i hunt , no contest as i am a genuine hunting guy , but dont suffer fools gladly , maybe we can have a walk out not intrested in books on beardies or anything else just working them and seeing them do what they are bred for

its alrite breding alitter what do you do with the shite drown them mate its hard to breed a whole litter knowing maybe only two or three are going to be able to perform on the big land i hunt and the rough land i hunt , i like beardies AS THERE TRUE SCOTTISH WORKING DOGS BUT WOULD NEED TO SEE A FEW WORKING maybe you could bring them up and we can work them and see how they perform , as i dont do chance breeding , and what are the bred ing of yours , will they perform on a hare day a roe nite a fox nite a rabbit day , as the ones we had were pretty versatile , thta we bred but the bitches were just rabbit dogs nothing else ,

Find this topic quite interesting as I have two beardie crosses..(Not a huge percentage though)

 

Why would the bitches that you breed just be rabbit dogs? What percentage of beardie was there make up?

half crosses mate thye through bitches small 22 23 didnt have the size for big slips but the dog i had did he made 25 powerful and fast could turn a winter hare in first feild and powerful enought to hold roe and kill a fox , bitches were not pacy enough for localy and well cant say much more they could all catch a rabbit ,but were i stay there not abundance of rabbits the one i kept was smooth for some reason as was some of the litter i kept a bitch of another type of beardie she was rough and caught good hares roe up to christmas but after christmas tioled a bit on strong hares or roe , were i stay localy there lots of rabbs and i have decent hare roe dogs now , but my ole colli cross is 9 and if i dont get a pup will need a replacement for her, saw several beardies who were slo ,maybe bad greyhounds or to furry and thru to the colli all the best , the one i got from hanckock was agood rabbit dog but not pacy enough maybe a poor grade greyhound , and to furry for running hard in sep oct but great for on the hills ferreting and lamping in all conditions etc, but not fast open winter wheat mate

Heres a picture of my two beardies crosses which I got. The dog is about 24 1/2". The bitch is 21" shown with her sire about 23".

Quite a size variation but probably just because of there being alot of different crosses in their make up.

bigger one look handy ,but there not genuine first crosses mate , thye have beardie but could have beddi or could have deerhound , which is all good , nice dogs more fine than mines were but nice all the same

This thread was ruined sometime ago by the assholes who think they are bigger and better than everyone else, and are right up there own fox holes! Why do they do it....

 

The coat on my beardie is thick and heavy, and yes on a full long hot day he is struggling but only after doing enough for me anyway. I ferret and work the cold moors in the dales, so a beardie is ideal and he suits the terrain with his broadness and phsique. Winter time comes and he outshines any other dogs his size, simply because they curl up on shiver, plus he kills ANYTHING!

thtas were my beardie came in handy cold wet weather but , spe oct when the nites are sometimes mild over heated on chase after chase on hares but was agood dog by anybodies standard just 5 yrd slo for to be a top class allround dog

youre right there mate.I hope when plummer went the bullshit may have gone with him but it looks like he left a legacy.When i started this thread i wanted to hear from people who have worked and are working Beardie lurchers.I didnt want to hear more about the persons life story and things like "In the spring I shall journey forth to the north bla bla bullshit.Thanks for your info anyway

This forum is going down the pan there never seems to be a thread now where people are slagging eack other off,to me it is f****ing boring,why not just stick to the subject.

 

Here is a photo of my Genuine Working beardie born in Wales

 

 

Dont know about slow as he will more than match our borders,no set in him unlike a border he will face anything ,tremendous stamina ,clip the coat back in the summer,like all our dogs only work them in the mornings when it is hot,our last one died at 14 worked sheep the day before he died,cracking nose unlike a border will hunt sheep up in thick gorse or wood.

Our Beadies were easy to train however you can get stock shyness in some,but I am a big believer in socialising pups and only had a problem with one .

nice type who bred him was he from scotland or wales my freinds old beardie was simliar but he was red and white but simliar stamp and not to much coat

We bred him ourselves out of our own bitch Woodland Lassie who we bought off a local shepherd called Peter Woods,His Father was our Beardie called Blue he died two years ago at the age of Fourteen what a working dog he was.

We own him his Brother who is an even better worker and his son accidental mating to our Jack russel

Dont know what it is about him but he has got one hell of a personality cheeky as f::::::k will go in and work the Tups Rams now
