Have to agree with the Marc H Glenn comment, I had a beardie/grey out of his stud dog sheamus and she was a wee cracker, she was nothing to look at which is exactly the type of dog I like, the ones that get laughed at and passed over by folks who like to judge the book by the cover - she was like shit off a shovel when it came to lamping rabbits (what I got her for) and I have yet to have a dog that was such a pleasure to train and work with. She used to fly back with the rabbit at the same speed as she went out and it was straight back to you every time no messing around. I doubt I would have another as I think comparisons would be made which would be unfair on the young 'un, but anyone thinking of trying the cross I would steer them in the direction of someone like Adrian who kept a working beardie stud tested on the quarry the crosses are intended for, and who kept one back to try and test out for himself. Like Whin says that dog was worked on everything and never let him down. Mine was a right little trier as well, she would have bust a gut to please you and this seems to be contrary to what everyone says about beardies being aloof, stubborn etc etc.

i had a Beardie X years ago....

A bugger to train(i spent days and days trying to train him to sit when a pup then the ex mrs taught him in an hour lol same with lead training... ;) ) but once it was in there it stayed.....bit slow to enter but a grand dog....

had to let him go at a young age as i was killed(an exageration (sp) but it bloody hurt lol) in a car crash.

So anyway thanks for the input.Especially the childish bickering.its been really informative listening but i think i will stick to bull crosses. There seems to be to many silly billys and girls involved in the beardies.thanks all.You can carry with the slanging match now.Its what seems to make you tick because im damn sure its not the dogs that do it for you.

I wouldnt dream of knocking them in fact i would like one.A first cross to hunt up in cover during the day.Thats the sort of thing i was told they are good at aswell as lamping but i wouldnt need one for lamping just daytime.I dont like borders at all and ive had a few including a pure border bitch that could really hunt cover when she wanted but genrally speaking they are too cautious for me.A few years ago i seen a Beardie catch in some cover a small deer which should have escaped but for the sheer desperation of the little bitch to catch it.I offered good money for that dog but he wouldnt sell but ive never forgot that catch.

Sold one of my Beardie’s to Morton Cullen he trained it as a Gun dog there a great breed, name a dog- whatever it can do a Beardie can be trained to do- providing the trainer is of good stead.

Trouble with this site there’s too many non achievers that knock others for their incompetence

the problem with beardie s as some ive saw from some pro breeders thye wouldnt catch the cold , there coats to heavy for a running dog , you get litter wastage the one i had made 25 mate adrain 25 , if you dont get the [bANNED TEXT] one you could end up with wastage cant catch the cold or fast game , that would be the only reason i would not breed them , as performace first danny etc were the best of thtat breed hanckocks a lot were wastage in my eyes and some of the ones i bred were only small yippy rabbit dogs, i realy think the ones locaaly are not to long in the coat and pretty nimble which in my eyes are more suited to breeding lurchers , i expect alot out of a dog and two bred a whole litter to pick two thtat can burl a hare catch roe rabbs foxes well there a big wastage fact , but thye would suit someone just rabbiting forgetting white hares , ive got some pics of the beardies we bred and a beardie border from 92 93 only the two males in each litter and one female could pressure fast qaurry ,end of
