Lewdan 17
Just to try and clarify a point that has been, remarked on recently . If your ticket has got " for use of virmin control " stated on it, does this automatically include fox When i applied for my centre fire i specifically said it would be used on rabbit and fox , but noticed my ticket states vermin control as above i only ask because it has been commented on this forum that fox must actually be written on ticket ( if i have read correctly ) Quote Link to post
Finkley 1
Eh up Keith, I recently mentioned a conversation I had with my flo on another thread, this was regarding rimfire only. He said to me that if anyone in Kent wants to shoot a fox with a rimfire of any calibre, it must be on their ticket. I was under the impression that with a centrefire round used more specifically for foxes .222, 22-250, .223, vermin did indeed include foxes. Who was it who said the law was confusing? Of course the only way to be sure is to get on the dog and bone. Sorry if I've caused wide spread panic, whoops. Cheers Steve Quote Link to post
Rentomski 0
Call your local Fireams Licensing. Unfortunately even though there is Home Office guidance on the matter: all Police Forces interpret the 'guidance' as it suits themselves. Good luck anyway! Quote Link to post
markbivvy 6
as said you would have to ask the FLD in the area that you are shooting in. if a chap from Cheshire came to west Yorks and shot a fox with his 17 hmr and had it on his ticket for vermin, And the west Yorks old bill get involved he could find himself in breach of his conditions as west Yorks do not class fox as vermin. strange but true, its one of the reasons i have the hornet, its on my ticket for fox and vermin. i also know a chap in west Yorks who has occasional fox listed as a condition on his .22 rimmie. When i applied for my center fire i specifically said it would be used on rabbit and fox , but noticed my ticket states vermin control as above if i had that as a condition on any of my cf rifles i would shoot foxes with it, and if it came on top let the shooting organizations sort it out. fac licensing up and down the country are a shambles. Deker 3,478
There is a lot of indecision on this one, and some regions insist on Fox being listed on your FAC for fox, but others accept vermin. With a larger calibre already approved for the likes of deer then ACPO has recently accepted you can use that calibre on fox, even if fox is not stated on your FAC. However, the real fun is with smaller calibres and rimfires where many regions will NOT accept certain calibres for fox, but you may well have "ground game and vermin" listed against that specific calibre. The only 100% answer is to ask for FOX specifically to be listed...best plan is to discuss with your specific firearms department, because the odds are you will get a different answer from a neighbouring firearms police region!!
