Getting in to falconerey?

Knowing nothing about falconrey, is it a sport that a novice should enter or is it a very difficult thing to pick up? what advice could you offer me and what type of bird would be suitable, the grounds i have permission on hold rabbits, pidgeons, pheasants, grouse, ducks among others. What are the costs involved, any advice gratefully received.

thurso jack, get yourselve a couple of good books and if u do decide to purchase a bird consider a harris hawk. they are more forgiven to any mistakes u may make compared to other hawks/falconsThey dont require as much time i.e you can get away with flying them once a week although more the better.intial cost can be expensive but once you have everything it aint.Try to get out with someone or pay the reddies for a course its a crakin pastime mate good luck

2 books i found very useful is (Jemima Parry Jones-Training Birds of Prey) and Emma Ford (Falconry Art and Practice)both very useful in selecting and training a bird of prey.As for the expense by the time you buy a bird and house it it and get all the kit to use with it you,re looking at small change out of about 6-800 quid all in.Check out my website it may help.

I make em myself i couldn,t find any when i needed them exept in america so i sussed out how to make em,i,ve used them for around four seasons and sold em to virtually every corner of britain and ireland and i haven,t had any thing but praise for them so far.and i use them on my pair of harrises every day as i got loads of squirrels around here and my birds love em,problem is they rip shit out of the birds when they catch em but they dont do any damage to the birds when they wear em.Check em out they,re listed on ebay regularly just put in a search for squirrel chaps.
