Hi all , as some of you may know i have a 13 month old bull x greyhound. When i first bought him at 10 months old he used to retrieve rabbits back to hand, but now he just catches them gives them a little chew and then leaves them where he caught them. It is really starting to get to be a pain, as walking over to him after every rabbit gets tiring especially when some of the rabbits run away after he puts them down. I have tried practising with a dummy in the garden and in the field he just runs to it picks it up and then drops it. I would really like to get this sorted out. So please could someone give me some advice...... Really need some advice it is much appreciated

Try teaching it to hold, place the dummy in the dogs mouth, hold its mouth shut, telling it hold, keep doing this until it holds the dummy all the time, let it carry the dummy using hold to encourage, try short retrieves as the pup picks the dummy shout hold, keep trying if not succesful. Slowly increase the length of retrieves. Plenty of praise , Good Luck

Hi mate sounds like your pulling your hair out .What i suggest is to tie a rabbit skin dummy to a lenth of cord about 10 feet or so and encorage him to chase it round in wild game then when he picks it up give him a gentle pull towards you and plenty of praise to bring it back to you.See how you get on with this for a while

I partly agree with picardy string and tice method.

Go back to playing with dog,the hold technique only worked with some of my lurchers, most found it too boring.

Fun,Fun,Fun.
