dog and a vixen

Recommended Posts

well i headed out for another look last night and very luckily bagged these 2. i started off at my usual place with not much hope in seeing anything since it was frosty under foot and i had an extremely bright moon in the sky. the place where i have previously shot 4 foxes was uneventfull so i headed off up the hill to have a scan over the other side but no luck so just headed back down to the pickup where i spied 3 rabbits and thought "what the heck" i needed ferret food anyway so shot the 3 and decided to leave the guts on the side of the hill incase a fox fancied some dinner. So off i went again to the next spot where i have also shot 4 foxs previously but there was nothing to bee seen so i just settled down and had a good call . after 30 mins or so i could see the lamp was starting to dim and was going to head home untill i saw a little eye shining up on the hill but it was just a rabbit then a fox came up behind it then dissapeared. i kept gently squeeking and having a wee shine for another 5 minutes and then the fox appeared over the top of the hill and slowly came into view and sat down. no matter how hard i called it just sat there so what else could i do but get down onto the bipod and thud i put the bullet clean through the neck and a nice big vixen.on the drive home i need to go past the first place and decided to have a quick shine on the face of the hill and would you believe it another fox. i parked up got the lamp and battery out, gun out, loaded up and it was still there but had walked up onto the brow of the hill and stood side on for a perfect shot but couldnt fire as when i was there earlier there was sheep in the bracken over the other side and couldnt tell if they were there or not so gave a call and the fox just trotted down the other side into a gulley. not to be beaten i quickly made my way to the brow and there he was trying to make an escape so sat down and gave a whistle , it stopped and thud another fox dealt with. the first 1 i shot had teeth missing at the front and looked rather old, it was only 2 lbs lighter than the dog.
