Adam-RunningDog 1
if i use a really light pellet would it encrease the ft/lb of my gun and if i used a heavy one would it decrease the ft/lb ? never really thought of this, would be interesting to know Quote Link to post
sumo 0
it depends on which gun you have springer`s like lighter pellets precharge like heavier pellets cheers stu Quote Link to post
Adam-RunningDog 1
i got a PCP but will it change the ft/lb the pellet is travelling at ? Quote Link to post
milo2005 0
Yes, Power to Weight Ratio Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
On a PCP the heavier the pellet the greater the ft/lb On a springer the lighter the pellet the greater the ft/lb Always be aware that pellet weight can take you over the 12ft/lb limit!! Quote Link to post
celticwar 1
and if you go to heavy you will have to aim for the sky to hit oat lol are you using .177 or 22 Quote Link to post

Sumo it depends on which gun you have springer`s like lighter pellets precharge like heavier pellets cheers stu This seems to crop up from time to time and I can see no logic in this at all...if we assume energy in the form of compressed air at the same power is released from both, can you please explain the above statements! Cheers! The other old tale that the police will always check your gun with a bisley magnum to get the most power out of it would seem nonsense if the above is true!! Quote Link to post
00taz11 39
would air arms pellet be heavy or light for my springer its 12 ftlb Quote Link to post
The one 8,495
Thats what i was told watch your gun power as the police test it with the heaviest pellet they can find as this alters the power and can take you over the limit Quote Link to post
riohog 5,725
regardless of pellet weighta non fac rated air rifle should not be capable of producing more than 12 ft pounds of energyat the muzle or therebouts Quote Link to post
Guest air gunner
i use quite heavy pellets in my springer for the impact they seem to penetrate better then the light one too. Quote Link to post
Mohamed Tassem 0
Lighter pellets dont retain their energy as long as heavy pellets do. Though they may leave the muzzle faster, they slow down real quick and wont have the impact or velocity of heavy pellets at distances. Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
would i be right in thinking that ft/lbs is a measure of power, in the sence that it is related to both weight and speed of pellet, because if it is it will be MASS X VELOCITY. if a rifle is capable of only one power, surley it wont matter how much the pellet weighs and would produce the same ft/lbs. if not i need to relook at my physics (never that great at that) and please excuse my ramblings Quote Link to post

This I why I don't understand the statements above (and nodoby has explained) why heavy or light are better in springers or PCP...it make no sense..but then again, how Father Chrisrtmas gets down the chimney is also a mystery to me!! Sterry 0
Just a possibilty but....In a PCP the pressure is a steadily increase (steady in comparison) where as a springer has a almost sudden build up of pressure. Maybe the reason why larger calibre rifle use dual charges for more effiecient pressure. just a thought Quote Link to post
