I have a jrtxwhippet and he's 15months old. He is very very whiney.

he is taken on long regular walks and is always very tired after these walks. He is worked regularly on the lamp.

He whines when he isn't comfortable, ie no bed around. he whines when he isnt getting any attention. I take him to the horse yard with me where i work, and he's really good when i am putting the horses out and follows me for a little walk, but when i am mucking he wanders around whining. He will whine when i'm there and when i am absent. he whines at night time sometimes but is not so bad with that now. At the moment my other dog is in season so he in the kennel on his own, i make sure he is well walked before he goes in to the kennel. but when he whines in the kennel its like a really loud cry, similar to a cry if you where cutting his leg off or something! His whinig starts off as a really high pitched one under his breath, and eventually gets louder and louder.

People told me he would grow out of whining but he doesnt seem to be getting any better. Its driving me absolutely mad. our other dog used to whine a bit but when i disciplined her she would stop, but the discipling didnt stop him.

I have tried ignoring him. Spraying him with water. hitting him. telling him to stop. the pet corrector spray.

Please help me!

Give him to an old woman. Would make a great lap dog! :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Based on what?

The dog works fine just a bit vocal, she asked for advice not pointless comments - or are you looking to get the dog? Sounds like you think he might suit you :whistling:

Some dogs are more vocal than others. Some do it for attention, some just chat as they go. Do you think it is truely attention seeking or just a reflex that he has. I have a Patt (and a cat) who just are very vocal - nothing to do with people or surroundings, they just "chat" as they go about their daily lives!

If it is obviously attention seeking and you have checked he is happy and everything is fit and well, I would try clicker training him. This is a great way for dealing with attention seeking animals. Clicker training is not easy and you would be well advised to get a book or instructor/helper to show you what to do. It works successfully with some animals very well - but they have to be receptive to the concept.

The basic principle is you are with the dog. You have a pocketful of treats and a clicker. The dog starts to whine, you ask him to stop, if he continues you ignore him and go about your day without eye contact or acknowledging his existence. If he stops, you immediately click and give him a treat and then continue with your work. You do this regularly, and he will soon learn. Do not click to get him to stop whining (easy habit to fall into).

I hope this helps. I use clicker training on some of my horses and it works fine. TBH I have not used it on my dogs, but I can't see why not - they are very treat orientated.

Good luck.

Put your mp3 full volume, try to totally ignore the dog i dont mean until you shout at him.

A dog is like a child they dont care if it's good attention or bad attention it's attention.

Only acknowledge the dog when he is quiet, then give him a fuss titbit whatever.

You see by spraying, shouting, pet whatsit he still got you giving him attention,so he has got a result,

Thats why he carries on.Heh! stop calm down.

Back to basic training and no shouting the dogs name at him for anything otherwise he will start not coming back to you on top of everything else.

Sorry soundind like a self righteouse git.

Have been training dogs for years and i do believe we can sometimes give the wrong messages to our dogs.It is always us that screw up not our dogs. You mentioned that your other dog whined, that says that it is possibly something you are or aren't doing.

Good luck with him.

If i sounded too critical i apologise.

a shock collar will shut him straight up, just give him a zap when he is in his kennel whinning and say bed or shhhh at the same time. i bet you dont have to do it three times before he starts going to bed on command without the collar.
