The Ase mod is a very good one, had one but it was faulty. I chucked it as it came with a rifle and I was unaware of its value.

Oops!

The key with 22lr is a decent scope IMHO. It holds energy well so if you can hit stuff it's effective relatively far out.

i've got a few scope that i use/used on my air rifles, the one i was planning to switch on to a .22lr is the 4-12X50IR mil dot hawke night eye or a niko stirling 3-9X40AO mil dot. i am think in of the Hawke more so than the niko because my new rimmy will take over from my air rifle in the majority of the time. what you think??

I have tried all types of HV rounds and found that the grouping was never good enough. I was told that the HV rounds drop out super sonic flight at around 50-60m and it induces a wobble in the bullet.

Since trying out HV I've gone back to using sub-sonic rounds and 12mm groups @50m.

Oh definatly, im gunna put down ground game and vermin. my understanding is that fox comes under vermin, if not we'll just change that on the interveiw

It doesn't according to at least two different police regions I know of. However, whether, ground game and vermin covers fox or not hasn't yet been tested in the courts.....do you want to be the first to try?.....stay safe and ask for FOX specifically on the smaller calibres!!

It is not an issue now on larger calibres as ACPO has accepted if you have larger game (Deer/Boar) listed on a calibre you can also take fox with that rifle, even if they are not specifically listed on your FAC!!

England and Wales!!

I dont fancy ending up in court for the police force's inconsistancies. i was going to apply for just a .22lr in febuary (when im 17) and apply for a .223 a year or so later when i have a bit of doe and so not to be asking too much from the FEO as im aware that he must watch his own back when licensing even more so when the applicant is just 17. would you think i would stand a good chance of gettin a variation for both? i have land that has been cleared up to .223

thanks

Couple of things;

I just got back into shooting after a few years lay off. No problems reapplying inspite of the Force having lost all records of my previous licences :clapper: What I wanted was .22 and .17hmr, which I got, what I was suprised at was the way I was actually pushed towrds a .223 to partner the hmr. But then again I am a little older than the op.

The other point was something that happened a few years back when I was rabbit shooting on holiday up in Scotland. Never have I seen such a high density of rabbits in one area. 2 of us had shot over a hundred in the 1st hour and it started to get boring We already had more than we could process. Anyway in the afternoon we decided just to take longrange shots, were using winchester subs. The best paced out shot was a rabbit shot straight through the heart at a 175 yds. It needed about 3ft of holdover but dropped stone dead.

It just gave me a realisation of what the little rimfire can do at that range with a well place shot.

Another thing that has just come to mind. Have any of you read Peter Hathaway Capstick's series of books? He was an ex big game hunter in Africa. He recounts the tale of a chap who shot and killed an African elephant with a single .22 rimfire shot to the heart :notworthy: This was done by shooting it somewhere behind the front leg or in the armpit. No one believed this so the guy went out and did it again to prove it :notworthy::notworthy:

Bloody hell

i only used a hand full of hv rounds in 22lr and found them shite. i would stick to subs and if you want more range get a hmr. the noise difference wont be much then plus your have alot more accuracy

Ok so quite a lot of folks agreeing here?

Anyone stand up in favour of hv stuff?
