FLATTOP 4,545
The old dog is never gonna give in to the youngster, so you have two choices I'd say. You could decide to keep just the one, or you could step in and sort the pair of them out, doesn't always work though as it depends on the breed, dogs nature and how you handle it.I've had this bringing two male Shar Pei's (not at the same time) into our Gaff that had a male Rottie who already ruled the domain. Both breeds very powerful and potentially aggressive. This was not an easy task I can tell you, the first one was bad enough, but the second was a very different kettle of fish, the Shar Pei is possibly the most determined dog I have ever seen and thank God our Rottie is not aggressive to the point of "feck this you are about to die" and will just hold his attacker until help (me) arrives. This has been a very long haul with continual on going input that is getting less by the day. One question, are they worse when you or someone else is about, I ask as what I have found is that when you take the human out of the situation, they are far happier. If you are to have a go at sorting it, distraction, water, noise etc is a good base camp. I have tried quite a few things from water to the present day "tool", which is a plastic emergency whistle that is used on ships, I only have to pick it up if I see one of the dogs not listening. Hi Al had a Shar Pei for over ten years probably the most territorial dog i have owned if you are a stranger to the house you just dont f**k with them fantastic dog though will never forget him got a patterdale bitch now she is coming on nicely. nguruve 2
i still disagree with people saying it cant be sorted it most definatly can! im not the most experienced person with working terriers but ive seen the most stubborn dog aggressive dogs get rehabilitated to stop fighting get a good dog trainer or behaviourist and they will be able to sort it out best of luck Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
ive got a pat dog and a white lakie/russell and they hate each other you have to keep them apart , i did let them get on with it once so they would sort out who was top dog but if anything they got worse and id defy anybody to TRAIN them not to fight ive tried shock collars etc but nothing works its just blind rage, one would end up killing the other if i let them so there separated end of Quote Link to post

nguruve 2
Shock collars are too remote...you've got to be in the action. Two nasty rageing terriers ain't fighting fuckall your honour if you've got the pair of them by the collars (left and right hand) and hold thier mush into the deck. Infact what they will be doing is exactly what the handler dreams up. Seen a human biteing pit cured once by a kid, granted it took him a good few hours but from the looks of things the pit had never before had it's head mopped around the room in a manner that demanded exactly when it was to turn left and right....it's body langauge suggested the position with it's arse in the air and it's lips kissing the deck("how hard did you say you was")...was a touch dispiriting for it ....more noticeable after the hour mark. Where there's a will ....there is a way. you are comletely right im suprised that people think that these problems cant be sorted they most definatly can with the correct handling dont give up on your dogs mate get it sorted the right way so they are fine with each other Quote Link to post
