those are far to heavy far to visible and set to low apart from the fact those two fixed steel legs have infact turned that snare in to double kill poleat least the 2.5 mm hoop will move taking the tension and will hold a fox cub and not move you wont be carting 100 of those about a field in one go the whole object to snaring is the weight factor the low cost and the fact they can not be seen you have just eliminated all three in one go.

in answer to your question yes that would catch a rabbit. we have similar hoops but made for fox but only set in low visability locations

just imagine 100 of those in a field not very unobtrusive and they would be target for theives or vandals simpicity in design is the key not evey one has access to welding set by all means have a go thats your choice but it seems like a lot of work for nothing

but ill just stick to the humble wire hoop which takes about 2 mins to make and attach a snare to

you can hardly see this hoop and im only a few feet away which is what you want you dont want to advertise what your doing

hi bro, got sorted here, i can see where you are goin with your design, let me know how it goes, anything that can protect other wildlife or pets other than what we want to catch is surely worth a try,good luck with it,bring it over with you when we are going to enniskillen so that i can get a closer look at it,i could make a few up an try them here and give you feedback.

I dont think that rabbit died in that contraption,it would have taken the wire around ONE of the frames legs at least and probably one of its own as well,Next time you rig up a posed snap shot, try to roughen the ground around the snare,get a bit of mud on the rabbit,try to make it look there has been a bit of struggle at least.The only person you are fooling with pictures like that is yourself,

mud on rabbit ground rought up might be hard as the area is highlands and it is frozen. and there is not enought lenght for the rabbit to tangle round the poles.

last night just before dark the rabbits avoided the snare. it will also need tested in an area were the rabbits are fast moving. in this site the rabbits walk even when you follow them clapping.

JSB, might it be a good idea to do away with the string completely and attach the snare to the top of the hoop, if the string rubs on a bit of raw weld at the top you could lose your snare, rabbit and all.

 

I see when others use hoop snares that they attach the wire directly to the tealer.

 

Just a thought.

good idea thanks. remember all this is a test piece for the new laws in scotland all ideas are welcome. this is not a money making idea, just trying to make all lkaws workable. post ideas. read previous post by ian about snaring laws, hopefully you will see what i'm doing. thanks
