If you keep your cat in your own house and garden, then that's fine. Let it wander killing birds and sh1tting in peoples gardens, then it's a pest of the first order. Normally cat owners where I live, have no interest in gardening, surprise. There are doggy bins springing up everywhere nowadays, yet cats are allowed to wander about sh1tting and digging up seedbeds, molesting pigeons, and killing songbirds. This somehow is a taboo subject for the media, and while we are bombarded with lectures on dog sh1t, cats are never mentioned. What other animal can you "own" and just allow to wander anywhere it fancies doing damage as it fancies. Little wonder they occasionally get into trouble from gardeners and pigeon fanciers. Personally I now have to net my entire garden against them at sensitive times, and though I don't advocate or condone it in any way, I fully understand the desire by some to take firmer action :gunsmilie: . ian.

Ok, so this idea is maybe not one of your best, BUT at least you had an idea, it's easy for people to slag off new ideas and say that there are tried and tested ways of doing something, we used to get around perfectly well on horses, so no need for cars then??? :icon_eek:

The first mobile phones were laughed at, too big, to heavy no need for them, too expensive, Not laughed at anymore though. :whistling:

Maybe in this case the tried and tested way will be the best way ever, but unless you have people like JBS you'll never know for sure.

Better luck with your next invention.

Trouble is, this is a step backwards. A 5 ft long piece of 2.5mm hightensile fencewire at a cost of 1.7p bent into a hoop with a six strand snare in it, not only does the job, but does it better. It's next to invisible for one, and it's springy for another, and cushions the pull on it. Send for Woodga's video, he's an expert with hoop snares. Good luck ian.

A pest isn't a pest because of what it is... it's a pest because of where it is. In a basket is fine but I'm not going to sit idly by and allow the local moggy to waste the local goldfinches.

I'll leave the snaring advice to those that really know what they're talking about, and they know who they are! :D

I fear the cats will keep their status, so watch out mr Jones. I also feel the remark re the snarers was an if the hat fits comment aimed at me, however as I'm on treatment for paranoia at present, I'll spare you the broken thumb treatment this normally receives. Regards ian

Personally I've done my fair share of cat trapping. Nothing like Domestos to get the piss out of the back of the van.

The last job I did, with regard to feral cat removal, was from a woman who's new born child was born blind in one eye, due to toxoplasmosis carried by the feral cat population. She spent hours cleaning cat shit from her vegetable plot and contracted it through contact with the faeces.

Live trap and then humane disposal. ;)

I have a pic which I will try to find today of the result of one nights' cat activity in my garden. I have a feeling, that there will be more conflict between cats and veg growers as the likes of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall encourage an upsurge in self sufficiency.
