Hunting horns.

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering how the huntsman learns to play the horn. Does he teach himself or does he get lessons off someone. Also, if any guys off here will be following North Cornwall Hunt tomorrow at the old inn, St Breward. then give me a PM and i will come and say hi. wouldnt mind meeting a few more people off here

no kay, i know for a fact that there are hundreds of different calls for the hounds, thats what its for. I was just wondering if anyone knew how they learnt hahaha. Also i am in a good mood today lol

Well in that case someone must show people how to do it properly then if you have different calls

i think your over complicating it, there arent hundreds of calls, there are just varients of a select few. its just blowing hot air down a bit of bent tin.. try it..... practice makes perfect.

thats the best way mate, a visist to your the kennels to show your enthusiam to the local huntsman wouldnt be a bad idea, he will let you sweep the yards, skin the odd horse and one day he might teach you the secrets of horn blowing.

dont be tempeted to buy crap off ebay type places, they will defeat you. a good Swaine type horn can be aquired for good money, will last you a life time and sing out a fine note when treated right.

assuming your hounds are still fed on fallen stock, a dieing thing perhaps? then horse will be on the menu, as will calf, beast maybe mutton, either way its all got to be skinned and gutten, best place to be on a cold winters day :victory:
