snipper 0
thanks for the opinions guys, What is the maximun FPS I can have in both an air gun and air rifle before needing a FAC? I know the lbs rating but the majority of guns I have looked at only state a maximum FPS figure. Thanks Quote Link to post
spud gun 16
well i no the gunpower stealth, if its running at 12lb and its a .22 it will be 720fps (221m per second) and if in .177 it would be 850fps (261m per second) this is only for the stealth but i think there all the same. i hope this helps atb spud gun Quote Link to post
snipper 0
thanks, Is 12lbs the maximun for a pistol aswell as a rifle? or do air pistols have a smaller maximum allowance?? oppose to a rifle? Thank you Quote Link to post
marko 30
i think its about 5-6 pound max so you can see the difference thats why we all use airguns, gets the job done. Quote Link to post
Timelord 0
Pistols 6ft/lb and rifles 12ft/lb before an FAC is needed Quote Link to post

Thanks Hi Snipper some good advice on here, i have a pistol (smith and wesson co2 rep) which i would only ever consider using on the range and never on live quarry as at less than 6ftlbs the potential to wound any live quarry most cruelly is far too great to risk the target practice you are thinking of is a good idea with a pistol, i use my pistol when i fancy a change from looking through the rifle scope and fancy a bit of challenging open sight range shooting, it really makes a nice change trying to get a half tidy grouping at 10yds when using open sights and seeing my groups all over the place, a whole new ballgame from the accuracy a tele sight affords you and an interesting disclipline to master Quote Link to post
RAMCAM 4
thanks, Is 12lbs the maximun for a pistol aswell as a rifle? or do air pistols have a smaller maximum allowance?? oppose to a rifle? Thank you The maximum ftp for a rifle is 11.8, pistols around 5.5. Do not use a pistol on vermin unless shooting rats at very very close range. If you want something small go for a rat catcher around 8ftp you can then cut off the butt plate so ive been told. Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
I would very strongly advise you buy a rifle if you want to shoot live quarry at a distance, i have a crosman 2240 and its great for shooting mink and other vermin on traps and snares but i would only get about 10 shot per CO2 cartridge that are powerful enough for this. for target and plinking then its a good lil fun pistol. but for vermin at a distance a cheapish spring air rifle such as a secondhand webley stingray or BSA lightening would be good gun for what you need. If you but the but pad off (back end of stock) that would make it into a pistol making it illegal Quote Link to post
Sterry 0
Would this be classed as a Section 7 firearms as its a pistol or just be section 1 under rifles and what not?? Quote Link to post
