Piped tobacco

Does anyone know whether piped tobacco is any better or worse for you than a normal cigarette or cigar? i have smoked one a few times before and it deffinately tastes better than a fag but paralell to cigars, but does it still clog up your lungs etc?

I was wondering as its mainly old people which smoke pipes, and if it was real bad for you, they would be dead by the time you see them. haha

my uncle used to smoke a pipe.that is before he had a triple bypass. all tobacco is bad for you,don't start!!!i smooke and wish i'd never started.

All smoke is bad for you, as the act of burning itself releases carbon monoxide and all sorts of nasty tars. Commercially manufactured cigarettes ARE the worst of the lot though, imho. The way the tobacco is grown and cured, and the extra additives, provide an end product containing cyanide, formaldehyde, saltpetre and all sorts of muck. They are also RADIOACTIVE due to the types of fertilisers used, and in fact some sources state smoking 'normal' cigs equates to around 22,000 (yes 22 THOUSAND) chest x-rays a year. And folks wonder why they give you cancer?

 

If you must smoke, you can find organically grown rolling tobacco in hundreds of nice blends online and in independent tobacconists. They're not "good" for you, but imho they're a damn site better than commercial cigs if you ARE going to smoke; simply because they lack those awful additives and chemicals. As an aside, pipes and cigars are not to be inhaled, they're smoked for their 'flavour' in the mouth only. That's why pipe and cigar smokers tend to 'only' get oral cancer rather than lung cancers.

 

Best advice was above; don't start. I smoke rollies (10 a day on average) but before that I was chugging on 30 to 40 'proper' cigs a day. They're cleverly engineered to leave you wanting more, and never really satisfy the cravings. Great money making machines, and every one a nail in your coffin. And that's coming from a smoker! I tend to find rollies are more 'satisfying' and I can have literally just a few a day when I 'fancy' one (meals, socially) rather than 'needing' one after another as with cigs.

id smoke a pipe just for the cool factor of seeing my chavvy mates smoking cheep baccy and me with a pipe also id puff it angrilly at people who annoyed me

i smoke a pipe, you dont tend to inhale as much, i like to sit quiet in the garden and watch me dogs get some good baccy , black cherrys nice and just chill out, i have a small clay pipe and a rose briar, but when im out i like me rollis, it is bad i suppose, but then there are few things in life that people approve of, dont do this dont do that, get stuffed its my life and your only here once, my dads 78 and still enjoys a pipe, jack hargreaves allways had a pipe on.
