arveyboy 0
had my FEO visit last night. went really well. he was satisfied with the cabinets and seemed more than happy with my experience shooting. he told me i should have my certificate within a week so i will keep everyone posted. just out of interest, i've recently been looking at the savage 93R17-BTVS in .17hmr and it looks like a great rifle. i did have my eyes set on the cz style which seems great but i do love the thumbhole stock design and it feels really nice to grip. would anyone be able to compare the two. obviously the savage is almost £200 dearer but i've also heard great things about the cz. regards, Jack Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
If the Savage is £200 dearer than the CZ, then don't forget to look at the Sako Quad CZ will shoot as straight as anyone needs, as Im sure will the Savage. The Thumbhole on the Savage is the same as on the Remington 700 VLSS. SS Quote Link to post

(and bought it). It probably won't do any better than the rest, but read the reviews *****, But it may be £200 up from some others, but only you can value that Quote Link to post

Dan_Smiff 2
I received my FAC and SGC yesterday and have already been to purchase a CZ style and it’s just the job. Hoping to get out and blast some bunnies with it this weekend. I had my visit on the 1st of September to give you an idea of how long in can take, and that’s with Devon and Cornwall who are meant to be very good – it was only due to several human errors and staff there going on holiday though, my advice would be to wait for three weeks and then give them a polite call every week or so because if you leave it to them they could be a bit slack! It’s bloody good when you’ve got it though – I just need to rustle up enough for a decent shotgun now! Quote Link to post
arveyboy 0
dan smiff have you got the cz in .22 or .17 hmr? my FEO said it should actually be done very quickly because they have an unusually low number of applicants to deal with. the rest of the process was done very quickly so im quietly confident about it cheers for the replies lads has been helpful. was thinking of getting the cz then spending a bit more of the budget on good glass. any ideas? something around £300 perhaps. i originally had a budget of about £150 but ive been saving up since i actually sent off the application so what better to spend the money on?! Best of luck with it bud - mine was an extreme case, everything that could have gone wrong did, I'm sure you'll be fine! Quote Link to post

Trust me when you've used the .22 for some time you'll not want to be without one, it'll be case of the CF as well as Quote Link to post

SportingShooter 0
Don't forget to break the barrel in Dan Quote Link to post
Dan_Smiff 2
Don't forget to break the barrel in Dan How important is that with a 22lr? I heard some say it's a must and others say that they just shoot them out of the box and clean them every few hundred rounds. I've ordered a bore snake but have no other cleaning products yet - what do you suggest (nothing too anal please!?) Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I suggest, that you clean the barrel with some good gun oil straight out of the box to remove the lining the manufacturers put in there. Then fire a round and clean it. Repeat this five times. Fire a three shot group and clean it. Repeat this five times. Fire a five shot group and clean it. Repeat this five times. This is a pretty basic run in. But better than nothing. I can't see the point in not doing it personally, if you want something to last for a decent length of time, as a .22LR normally does, then it's best to do so. SS Quote Link to post
