Big bald beautiful 1,231
yes but hardly anyone will find a stud dog working fox to put over there foxing bitch people in the plummer world would rather use a nice looking non worker then an ugly, tall, non show ability dog. go to a show and ask questions, even the entered classes are being won by dogs that havnt been entered.its a joke and there only fooling themselfs. i do hope fireman continues and can find a nice working plummer to continue his working lines. a lad who was digging with his plummers used a russel outcross ?was this because his couldnt find a good enough plummer to put over his tried and VERY tested plummer bitch? shinyspade 2
if any of my dogs make the grade i would use an outcross or crossbred plummer . if i couldnt find a suitable pure plummer. going off topic though so back to molly. here's to many years of work from her. Quote Link to post
john hubery 9
You lads that do have plummers that do the job realy need to get together and produce the goods and get away from the show mentality, there are some of you out there despite what others say, if you lioke the look of plummers it wont hurt to drop an outcross in there now and again, it can be bred back out to get the plummer markings back Quote Link to post
deep dig 3
You lads that do have plummers that do the job realy need to get together and produce the goods and get away from the show mentality, there are some of you out there despite what others say, if you lioke the look of plummers it wont hurt to drop an outcross in there now and again, it can be bred back out to get the plummer markings back thats what im trying to do cos i only interested in the working side of the breed. but its just ashame on this site that they let people that are only interested in pound notes and kc carry on and try and down us. thought this was a working site . sorry about that just gets on my tits some times,,, Quote Link to post
fireman 10,935
Now i do go to some plummer shows and have some rosettes that this bitch has won,the reason i go is so i can meet like minded plummer owners and see how the breed is getting on.I have met some great folks who graft there plummers and will continue to visit such shows,my bitch is rose eared, wide chested and a touch pigeon toed so when i put her into a ring i don't expect anything with her.The reason i enter her into shows is so i can support the said show and make up numbers so the show is worth carrying on with, nothing more as without these shows i wouldn't be meeting other plummer owners. There are a good few folks who i think also do this and treat the whole thing as a fun thing, there are also a few who think winning and promoting their kennels all in the name of breed promotion is the be all.I live in norfolk and travel to wales, midlands, shropshire, pennines and the north east and i sure as hell don't do it for a £2 rosette, like i said to meet folks that do own and graft their plummers. My bitch has proven tested earth dogs in her pedigree going back 5 generations and if she proves her worth in time i will breed her to a proven earth working plummer terrier and yes i have found a good few to choose from . Now knowing that is she still a good plummer or just another non worker you see at all the shows?, :headshot:: Quote Link to post
Guest night time my time
I HAD A PLUMMER BITCH THAT WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO PICK FOX OFF THE GROUND AND RAG THEM LIKE A RAT,ITS HARD TO EVEN GET A PLUMMER FROM SOME BREEDERS IF THEY KNOW YOUR GOIN TO PUT IT TO GROUND,IM TRYING FOR A NEW OC BLOODED DOG PUP,I ONLY HAVE A BITCH PUP LEFT AT THE MO,CANT WAIT TILL SHES GROWN, TROUBLE IV CALLED HER,I BRED HER MYSELF AND AS IV SAID TRAGICLY LOST HER MOTHER, Quote Link to post
Guest 10/22
You lads that do have plummers that do the job realy need to get together and produce the goods and get away from the show mentality, there are some of you out there despite what others say, if you lioke the look of plummers it wont hurt to drop an outcross in there now and again, it can be bred back out to get the plummer markings back It was done(new blood) in the late 90's, and it was a huge sucess, the problem is it was done by a woman and they just dont like it, her dogs have proven themselves time and time again both working and in the show ring. indeed I do believe we have a 'cast off' bitch here from deep dig who sent it to us as it was too hard and a trouble causer, not true its the nicest tempered dog you could ever meet, apparantly it also worked when he had it and worked well(its all about how high you set your standards), I can tell you now its one of the worst workers we have in the kennels and is only here as it carries some good old blood needed to keep the gene pool fresh. We have sent one of her offspring to work this winter he is 18 mnths old, so we will see how he does but its not looking great, and he is by the very best of working lines - the lines keeps moaned about as being too hard(still she bred a litter from the Legion bitch, which I do believe deep dig has a pup from). We have plenty dogs both in the kennels and out working new blood and 'pure', we just dont feel the need to put pictures up, or make a big deal of it, why draw attention to yourselves. the 'goods' as you say are here, they just dont like the fact it took a woman to do the job for the men who were incapable of, as if they were that good there would have been no need for brian to ask sue to get involved in the first place, all she did was prove it could be done, and done well. the result of her work is thta yes plummers can work and be within breed standard - she doesnt , didnt or wouldnt need or use one dimentional excuses , she produced the goods. Keeps 403
Deep dig has nothing in his kennels from your lines, he has a bitch pup, Keela, from the best plummer in my kennels, Wyremead Suzi. He got rid of Cody because she was a crap worker and a trouble causer. He wouldn't have got rid of her if she was a good worker now would he - as you say, it depends on how high you set your standards... Now stop trying to hijack and spoil yet another working terrier thread, I won't be replying to anything else on this thread that you post again - you're a shit stirrer and a trouble causer and I really don't know what you are doing on this forum. John Hubery I totally agree with you! Once again WELL DONE FIREMAN AND MOLLY KEEP IT UP WE NEED MORE WORKING PLUMMERS! Get this thread back to what its about - working terriers. Quote Link to post
Guest night time my time
as we were saying, we breed our plummers for work, and breed them worker to worker, although i do see the need for the out x, i like and have seen both work, the so called out x and the pure, molly is a pure blood but is also very bully in to look at but what does it matter if she has the drive to do the job terriers were bred for?me,my lurchers, molly and fireman will be out agian this week looking for more pests, im looking for a new plummer dog myself as i lost my bitch this year and shortly before stupidly sold my dog cause he wouldnt go to ground,im looking for an out x dog so i have a pure and an out x,i do belive the bull blood to be benifishall when it comes to strightening faults i love to see these dogs work, above ground when it realy gets going on rats iv never seen a breed of there equal, below ground we now have a few starting to prove themselves, argueing about these dogs is pointless, you could fall out with your best mates argueing dogs(whatever breed),i would much rather let the dogs speak for themselves, this thred was put up to prove what some of us already know and that is our plummers will work to ground, not for politics, most of us are not intrested in fighting,we are dog men/woman,i for one would burn my papers if not for an intrest in breeding aswell, there is a differnt thred for arguing, this one was about working, thank you, Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
pts sleep bad workers dont pass them on. look at the guys in the EPTS. there swopping dogs like football cards. who buys in an adult dog and thinks they can chance its ways and then moan when they cant. blokes who havnt had a plummer before buys in an adult dog, becomes a spoaksmen for the breed and then gets rid of said adult dog for another. is it anywonder the breed and there owners are a joke.
