Thats the bother with ferreting, your a bit tied to the one spot once you put your ferrets in youve made that committment to stick with them til they resurface or are dug to. Ive been caught loads of times over the years, every farmer/keeper is different and they dont all react the same. Ive had blokes shouting and bawling at me, every swear word under the sun, threats of this and that, through to guys who will come over and take an interest in what your doing and watch the proceedings, one time a keeper came over and asked me to leave, I was on my own with 2 ferrets and a few nets, it was back years ago when I used to get mates to drop me off at bits as I didnt drive. I just told him straight I had been dropped off and the guy wasnt coming back for me for 2 hours. And that I wasnt prepared to leave my ferrets to ground. If your determined in your attitude people will often respect you for it allthough a lot of the time its begrudingly. Well this keeper didnt really know what to say after that, so I offered him a sweet as an icebreaker and he accepted and then sat down to watch the rabbits bolt and then me clearing up the nets etc. When I had them back in the box and made to move off to the next bit he just said ok on you go I can see your no doing any harm just stay away from that wee wood where the pheasants are and once your mate picks you up I dont want to see you again :clapper: Of course I stuck to my side of the bargain rigidly once I give my word thats it, I went back many times but as agreed, he never SAW me again hehe :clapper:
