o/u or side by side

Having decided against a semi for game/clay, which is the better one to look for ? the side by side or o/u? this is my first gun.

What ever fits you and suits you.

 

I prefer my sbs to my o/u.

 

Go to a gunroom and shoulder a few of each.

Cant beat a nice sbs beats the o/u all day long on looks and quality i like the old english but try then buy see what suits you more.

Yes I would imagine the SxS has the better options avaiable with different choke settings and twin triggers, altho the o/u has an easier targeting method, but the SxS looks better!! agghh!! im just going to have to see what I can get and what is suitable etc and in budget.

Definatly the side by side: look better, sit nice on your arm rather than a u/o, i get a better swing with mine, and i just generally wouldnt use anything else for game.

got to disagree o/u all day long but thats just me get along to your local clay ground see if they can arrange for you to shoot a selection of guns always try before you buy

I suppose it depends on what you really want. Am no expert on shotguns mind you. I'd think O/U's would outnumber SxS by a good number on clay shoots, how they compare in the game shooting world I don't know.

 

They reckon an O/U is more pointable because you're looking down the one barrel on top not down the middle of two side by side.

 

Personally I don't like the look of O/U's, just not to my taste, I'd prefer and hope to one day own a decent looking side by side. Not for any snob value, but I genuinely like the look of them.

 

I'd go with Al's advice, go and shoot with a few at a few different clay grounds if possible. I'd prefer to start getting advice from people who aren't trying to sell me a gun (sorry, i generally distrust getting information from people with vested interests, but I'm generally a cynical fecker anyway). When you've shot a few, hopefully talked to a few owners go and fondle a few and get advice in some gun shops.

 

Usually takes me an Ice Age to make up my mind about a gun, no reason to rush. Buy a gun that fits you well and that you also like.
