how big do you like your dogs, and how big are the multi tasking ones in New Mexico that you see? I'm talking about the ones that will do more than just hares/jackrabbit ... fox/coyote, capable of handling a decent deer too?

Nice photos there Whin.. , very nice dogs too , bet they've took a nice head of game between em over the years! Really like the collie cross, would like to see some piccy's of your other dogs back in the strain, Lana, Luke? right back to D.slights Kizzie / Kate? and M Chapmans Bob back in there? Tried, tested proven workers over the years no doubt. I aint no expert, just been keeping tabs over the years... ATB,

I want it all  good feet, stamina, bidable, clever (but not more clever than me), good coat, pace, ... see, I said I want it all!

Where we live and do most of our running it is a lot of fast running across gravel roads and on big fields (big by UK standards, but small for the US). Lots of barbed wire and ranch fencing so good jumping is a must. BUT we have to have dogs that we can pick up and go run places with long distance and stamina, coyotes in Kansas, jackrabbit in Wyoming, as well as being handy around digs and around barns for coon.

Kye has 2 staghounds, they have been good for him and have done everything asked of them and more, and has another one on the way. I've got 1 stag/greyX, she is fast and wants to do everything, and for my first running dog has been a pleasure to own, but she is getting old and has broken a bunch of teeth so she struggles on some of the stuff we run her on, I don't see her lasting through another season. Lastly I've got a Saluki/greyX with a pinch of staghound, she is quick and gritty but she is small so IF I breed her she'd have to be bred up in size, probably to Kye's male staghound as he would fix everything that's "wrong" with her, which isn't much really.

I have a real love of Salukis, I like that they aren't needy and clingy, I like the stamina, good feet, lighter frame etc but just can't stomach the price tags out there. Regardless of cost, it would have to be from proven stuff on more than just hares/jackrabbits, it has to be from stock that takes toothed and fast game and no yapping.
