Tiff 36
how big do you like your dogs, and how big are the multi tasking ones in New Mexico that you see? I'm talking about the ones that will do more than just hares/jackrabbit ... fox/coyote, capable of handling a decent deer too? Quote Link to post

whin 463
bus rummager there all there mate thats ole lana bred in dec 99 ive got pics of luke lana bob katie kizzy, even got videos of them all mate and the saluki line from 89 onwards , i never put them up bud , a couple of young ones wanted me to put some up i says keep it sweet no pics of the ole salmos or roe hanging from trees etc like some guy done a few year back me emptying them and heres eejit heed takeing pics , then he goes and puts them up on a comp, wife a strange question how big me for were i hunt in scotland 25 27 tho lana is 24 but a bit specail,in new mexico and all over texas panhandle the dogs ive saw kneck coyotes catch and jack rabbit regulary were 26 to29 ,but if i was you i would get a proper jack rabbit hound and get a fast coyote hound but with balls and work the two of them , the dogsa ive saw are not the type youll see going about they were bred of ben hardaways stuff and old d salmons, milt garret real dogs simliar character to my self they live for the hunt , milt garret breeds dual purpose dogs from roswell and good ones at that and i mean good , my good freind dutch are great jack rabbit dogs and he had a few coyote dogs but they overheated and one passed away but saw him kill coyotes and i saw a saluk cross kill them but not a fine type a big female and very tough , if youre going for all rounders get a mix in your, if i was you i would go to the ben hardaway strain saw them run jacks and they do kill deer regulary as they have lots of acres and its all deer over in goergia , dutch bred his dogs to kill jacks and the desert is hot so he bred then to suit his needs but he gets dogs form hardaways niece nice woman and a real hunting gal , they have the dogs you want i would say , or ther old bobby white head from rosewell , more of a dog dealer but goes down the pan handle and catches 17 coyotes in a weekend , what type of ground are you running fast land rocky grass land prairies , Quote Link to post
Tiff 36
I want it all good feet, stamina, bidable, clever (but not more clever than me), good coat, pace, ... see, I said I want it all! Where we live and do most of our running it is a lot of fast running across gravel roads and on big fields (big by UK standards, but small for the US). Lots of barbed wire and ranch fencing so good jumping is a must. BUT we have to have dogs that we can pick up and go run places with long distance and stamina, coyotes in Kansas, jackrabbit in Wyoming, as well as being handy around digs and around barns for coon. Kye has 2 staghounds, they have been good for him and have done everything asked of them and more, and has another one on the way. I've got 1 stag/greyX, she is fast and wants to do everything, and for my first running dog has been a pleasure to own, but she is getting old and has broken a bunch of teeth so she struggles on some of the stuff we run her on, I don't see her lasting through another season. Lastly I've got a Saluki/greyX with a pinch of staghound, she is quick and gritty but she is small so IF I breed her she'd have to be bred up in size, probably to Kye's male staghound as he would fix everything that's "wrong" with her, which isn't much really. I have a real love of Salukis, I like that they aren't needy and clingy, I like the stamina, good feet, lighter frame etc but just can't stomach the price tags out there. Regardless of cost, it would have to be from proven stuff on more than just hares/jackrabbits, it has to be from stock that takes toothed and fast game and no yapping. Quote Link to post
whin 463
funny thing all those years ive been going to new mexico and texas , all over ,never saw yappers apart from a terreir collie pet come hunter, ill ask about and see whats getting bred if you want a dual purpose dog , ive saw a few out there milt garret breds them thyell do 2 0r three minutes are fast big and will spin a coyote ,he keeps all rounders ill ask about as illbe over there in feb millts a funnny fecher but a genuine dog guy ,i saw some good deerhound crosses at weekend big boned and fast but dont no what wind they would have dave platts from the uk has being sending a few over , but i would go for milt garrets strain or somebody my freinds no and i no wyoming jacks are difficult but so are desert jacks but because they have had rain there plentifull and easier at moment , if dutch ever breeds phoebees pups there cracker jack hare bitches and i mean good , a male out of that line ,maybe take to coyotes as there got coyote hounds in them i saw two of his catch and kneck a coyote un asissted first one they saw , cant say much more it sound like the dogs maybe alrite you have if you cross them but ive never saw better dogs than phoebe and her pups angie for feet durability , but dont no when heel breed them they are real machines , ill ask if any the litter he bred killed coyotes as there 3 past now Quote Link to post
